Seat Toledo rear window heating problem

My 2003 Seat Toledo with a diesel engine has a rear window heating issue. The heating coil doesn't seem to be working. There's an error stored in the error memory, and the windshield heating is also acting up. Any ideas?

I had a similar heating issue with my Toledo's rear defroster last winter. The car defrost wasn't working properly, so the rear window was constantly fogged up. First thing, have you checked the battery? A weak battery can cause all sorts of electrical gremlins. Does the windshield heating work as usual? Because a weak battery can cause issues to both heating coil systems.

Yeah, windshield heating is also not working as usual. Battery is heavily discharged, according to the error memory. How did you solve it? Was it just the battery?

Sounds like the same problem I had. It was indeed the battery. Heavily discharged or defective. The rear defroster needs a good amount of power, and if the battery is weak, it won't work. Think of it like trying to run a marathon on an empty stomach. I ended up replacing the battery. If the error memory mentions the battery, it's likely the cause. I'd suggest taking it to a workshop to confirm.

Thanks for the info. I took it to the shop, and you were right – battery was the culprit. New battery and a reset, and the rear defroster works again. Cost me 290€.
