Seat Toledo rough cold starts

My 2004 Seat Toledo with the gasoline engine is giving me grief. Mileage is pushing 200000km. Cold starts are a disaster. Engine runs rough until it warms up. I'm convinced it's the cold start injector. Poor engine running and start led me to suspect the fuel system, and fuel injection. I’m thinking about injector cleaning, but I’m leaning towards a faulty injector. Anyone else had this?

I had similar cold start problems with my Volvo some time ago. The symptoms you described sound very familiar. Fuel delivery was erratic during the initial start-up phase. Have you checked the fuel pressure regulator? A faulty regulator could also cause poor fuel delivery, mimicking a defective injector.

Fuel pressure regulator, eh? I hadn't considered that. Where exactly is that located, and is there a simple way to test it before I start tearing things apart?

The fuel pressure regulator on my Volvo was integrated with the fuel filter assembly, located near the fuel tank. I didn't test it myself as I lack the appropriate equipment, and simply took it to the workshop. Given the symptoms and your diagnosis of a potential cold start injector issue, I would suggest the same course of action. Let professionals inspect it.

I took the Toledo to the workshop. The cold start injector was defective. Replacement cost 515€. Ouch! But, she's running smooth now, even on these cold mornings. Thanks for the advice; it pointed me in the right direction.
