Regarding your experience with the check engine light and engine overheating, could you elaborate on the specific diagnostic trouble code (DTC) that was registered? Was it also related to a communication fault within the control unit, or did it indicate a different issue? Did you observe any connectivity issues with other vehicle systems?

I don't know any DTCs. It was overheating and I was getting worried. I'm not a mechanic, so after checking the easy things, I took it to a workshop. They sorted it out, but I don't know what they did, so maybe you should do the same.

Following your suggestion, I took the vehicle to a reputable workshop. The issue stemmed from a defective cable connection to the control unit, resulting in the communication error. The repair, involving cable replacement and reconnection, amounted to 95€.

I had a similar problem with my Fiat Sedici. The check engine light was on, and the engine was running really hot. I didn't see any coolant leaks, but it was close enough that I thought I'd mention it. Did you check the coolant level or the radiator fan?
