Sedici transmission issues
Summary of the thread
A 2010 Fiat Sedici with a diesel engine is experiencing transmission issues, including an engine warning light, emergency mode activation, slipping, unclean shifting, and occasional grinding noises. The error memory indicates a faulty transmission oil temperature sensor. Potential causes include a low gearbox oil level, which could lead to overheating, especially when the engine is warm. Solutions involve checking and possibly replacing the sensor and ensuring the gearbox oil level is adequate, as confirmed by a workshop visit.

It seems to be more frequent when the engine is warmer, yes. I did a quick visual check of the wiring, but didn't see anything obvious. Should I be looking for a specific type of damage or is there a way to test the wires, maybe with a multimeter?

Yeah, heat can definitely make things worse. If the wiring looks okay, and the problem is heat-related, low oil level causing overheating seems plausible. Honestly, with those symptoms, especially the grinding, I'd get it to a workshop pronto. Don't risk making it worse.

Thanks for the advice. I took it to a shop, and you were spot on. Gearbox oil was indeed low. Replaced the sensor while they were at it. Total cost was 365€ Appreciate the help!

Sounds like a pain. Is it happening consistently, or just under certain conditions, like when the engine's hot? Have you checked the wiring to the sensor itself? Sometimes it's just a loose connection.
