Seeking Advice for '04 Hyundai Getz: Engine Overheating, Noise, and Metal Shavings in Oil
Summary of the thread
An '04 Hyundai Getz is experiencing engine overheating, odd noises, and metal shavings in the oil, with the check engine and oil lights illuminated. These symptoms suggest potential severe engine issues, possibly due to excessive wear between pistons and cylinder walls or bearings. Immediate diagnostic evaluation by a mechanic is advised to determine the exact cause and necessary repairs, which could be costly if the engine is significantly damaged.

Hey! Thanks for the response. To give you more specifics, my Getz just clicked over 119963KM and its last serving was done a couple of months ago. I'm hoping it's not the engine but I'll get it checked soon. Any other advice is welcome. Cheers!

Hey! No worries, happy to help out. Okay, so your Getz reaching nearly 120,000KM does put you in the territory where significant wear and tear start to show up, particularly if the car hasn't always been maintained perfectly. Based on my Accent's saga, the metal shavings in your oil is not a good sign. It might suggest excessive wear between your pistons and cylinder walls, or maybe your bearings. That could explain the weird noises and overheating. However, it's only speculation at this point, so don't panic yet. Get your car to a mechanic as soon as possible for proper diagnostics. If it is indeed the engine causing the problems, it could potentially be a huge cost. But hey, you might actually find out it's something far less severe. The oil contamination could just be a symptom of everything else that's going wrong. In my case, there was such a contamination but the main issue was the worn-out engine components. So, summing it up, your situation aligns with my experience. Get a comprehensive check from an expert. Be prepared for a potentially large repair cost, but fingers crossed, it might just be something more minor! Keep us posted! Best of luck.

Hey! I really appreciate your insight and suggestions. Your previous experience does sound remarkably similar to what my Getz is going through. I'll absolutely take it to a mechanic ASAP. I was also hoping it’s not the engine but based on what you've shared, it is seeming like a significant possibility. I'll stay optimistic and hope for the best despite preparing for the worst-case scenario on the financial front. I'll definitely keep you updated on what the mechanic finds out. Thanks again for sharing your experience, it’s really been a huge help! Cheers!

Hey there. I had a somewhat similar issue with my '06 Hyundai Accent a few years back. I'm no mechanic, but I can share my own hands-on experience. Once my car started overheating and making strange noises, I quickly got it to the mechanic. It turned out my engine was shot. The metal shavings were a clear indication of the problem; possibly a defective component inside the engine. It cost me a hefty 625€ to fix it up. That being said, could you provide more specifics on your car? The more details I have, the more I might be able to advise. Cheers!
