Seeking Advice for 2007 Dacia Logan's Heavy Fuel Consumption, Power Loss, and Black Exhaust Smoke

Hey, got a question concerning my 2007 Dacia Logan, Diesel, clocked up about 95177 KM. She's been acting up lately, guzzling fuel like a beast, showing lack of power, and throwing out black smoke on acceleration. Also, she jerks and whistles up a storm when accelerating and there's this loud hissing, alongside an assertive exhaust smell. The engine light's on too. Based on these symptoms, I'm guessing there's an issue with the boost pressure control. Can anyone share their experience with similar problems, and their experience with mechanic fixes? My last visit to the auto doc wasn't exactly a success, so I'm eager for some DIY solutions or recommendations for a trustworthy mechanic. Appreciate your help!

Hey! I had pretty much the same symptoms with my Dacia Duster 2010 Diesel not long ago! That gas guzzler drove me nuts too with insane consumption and like yours, mine had that annoying hissing sound. Turned out, the culprit was the wiring harness to the boost pressure actuator. The darn thing had gone haywire and needed replacing. It was a serious enough issue considering how it messed with the car's performance and fuel efficiency. The mechanic had to spend a fair bit of time dealing with the wiring harness and the boost pressure actuator due to its pesky position, but he got it done. He stressed that these issues should be addressed ASAP to prevent further damage. Also, dealing with such an intricate part isn’t an ideal DIY project - especially if you're not comfortable around car guts. It's complex stuff and you don't really wanna do more harm than good, right? Generally, if you're facing these symptoms it's best to get your ride to a garage pronto. Have 'em take a good look at the wiring harness to the boost pressure actuator, could solve your woes. Good luck with your Logan!

Hey, massive thanks for the advice! Crazy how close your Duster issue is to my Logan's, down to the dreaded hissing. Getting my hands dirty ain't the issue - it's messing up my beloved metal horse that worries me. Totally agree, no one wants to end up with an even bigger mess, so I guess it's another mechanic adventure for me. Do you remember ballpark what it cost you to sort that wiring harness and boost pressure actuator out? And since the fix, everything's been smooth sailing or any other nasty surprises? Thanks again!

Hey, no problem, happy to help. So, about the cost - replacing the damaged wiring harness to the boost pressure actuator ran me about 155€. It's a bit of a hit to the wallet, sure, but considering the improvement in performance, it was a good investment. And to answer your other question - since that visit to the mechanic, my Duster's been behaving itself. That deviation with the boost pressure control? Sorted. No nasty surprises since. No more suspicious hissing, no jerking, and definitely no more black smoke. Hopefully, your Logan starts acting right again soon! Cheers!

Brilliant, that cost doesn't seem too steep if it gets my Logan back on her A-game! Super relieved to hear your Duster has been cruising smoothly after the repair though. Guess it's time to brace up for another visit to the auto doc. Hopefully, they can hit the nail on the head this time like with your beast. I'm keen on getting rid of that pesky hissing and that power drop, for good. Appreciate the advice & cheers to you too! Happy driving. Stay safe.
