Seeking Advice for 2018 Seat Tarraco's Engine Issues and Potential Tank Vent System Leak

Hey everyone, I'm dealing with a dodgy 2018 Seat Tarraco, gasoline engine, with about 60k on the clock. It's been acting up recently - engine light's on, it's losing power, runs unsteady, and jerks when I accelerate. Also, stalls and shakes while idling. I reckon it might be a leak in the tank vent system (last mechanic visit was a nightmare, so I'm not keen on going back so soon). Anyone had similar trouble? What was your experience with your mechanic like? Any advice would be appreciated, folks. Thanks!

Summary of the thread

A 2018 Seat Tarraco is experiencing engine issues, including loss of power, unsteady running, jerking during acceleration, stalling, and shaking while idling. The problem is suspected to be a leak in the tank vent system, potentially involving a faulty activated carbon filter. Replacing this filter, which absorbs fuel vapor to prevent pressure issues in the fuel tank, is suggested as a solution. This fix has been effective for others with similar issues, resolving symptoms and restoring smooth vehicle operation.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hey, That's a bummer. My 2015 Seat Leon had a similar issue a while back and I can tell you, it was indeed a problem with the activated carbon filter. I also had the same symptoms: jerky acceleration, a shaky idle, and the dreaded engine light. Definitely kinda ruined my joyride mood, I reckon. When I took it to the garage, luckily I had a solid enough mechanic who explained it to me thoroughly. He said it was all about the tank vent system alright. That filter is made to absorb fuel vapor, preventing them from reaching the atmosphere. So, if it's defective, it messes with pressure in the fuel tank, hence the power loss and shaky running. It might seem like a biggie, but it really wasn't. My mechanic sorted it within a day. He replaced the entire filter. It wasn't exactly a blast, but if that's the problem, you'd absolutely notice the difference once it's done. Hope this helps you out. Hang in there!

Hey, Ah, the foibles of the Seat life! My friend had the same hassle with his Tarraco last year and is bang on about that filter issue. You'd think for such a small part it wouldn't make a big problem but, trust me, it does! Quick question,, out of curiosity, how much did that dig into your wallet? And has there been any other problems since the replacement? Just trying to prepare for what he might be up against. Cheers!

Hey, Yeah, I hear you! It’s funny how such a small bit can make a huge difference, isn't it? It took around 275 quid to replace the activated carbon filter. Although it was a little painful to the pocket, I reckon it was totally worth it. Anyways, who can put a price on a smooth ride, right? After I sorted that out with my mechanic, all those tank vent system leak issues cleared up and have luckily stayed that way ever since - no more engine jerking or shaking. The old girl runs pretty smooth now. Hope this helps. Cheers!

Hey and, Thanks a ton, you two! You've cleared up a thing or two for me - knowledge is power, the saying goes. And it's made me less wary about driving my Seat Tarraco to the mechanic. So, I'll be ready to shell out those 275 quid or so for the activated carbon filter replacement and get my vehicle running smooth, just like's ride! If that sorts the issue out, it's money well spent in my book. Thanks again, folks. You've taken a weight off my mind. I'll keep you posted with updates. Until then, happy smooth driving!
