Seeking Advice for Fiat Seicento's Locking and Dimming Light Issues

Dim or flickering lights

Vehicle cannot be unlocked or locked

Hey, my 2006 Fiat Seicento with a petrol engine is giving me a bit of a headache. I've noticed that it doesn't unlock or lock properly and the lights have been dimming or even flickering at times. I'm guessing it could be an issue with the door handle electronics but I'm not completely sure. Has anyone else had this problem and figured out a solution? What was your experience like at the repair shop? Any tips or advice would be much appreciated.

Hey, yeah I had a similar issue with my 2004 Fiat Punto. I've got some experience messing around with cars, nothing professional though. Took my Punto to the local workshop, turns out it was the cable connection to outside door handle electronics to the control unit that was faulty. They sorted it out for me for about 110 Euro. Seems a bit steep for just a cable, but this stuff can be quite delicate you know. Oh and by the way, can you give more info about your car? Like, has it had any other electrical issues before? That kind of stuff could help.

Hey. Thanks for the quick response. To answer your question, yes I've had few similar electrical problems in the past as well, but nothing noteworthy. They are almost always resolved by a quick turn off and restart or a battery disconnect. Didn't think much of it before this door handle issue popped up. As for my car's details, it's got about 100691 km on it. Last serviced about six months ago, everything checked out fine then. Hearing about your experience at the shop, I reckon I should get the door handle issue looked at by a professional. Better safe than sorry, right? Thanks again.

No worries! Let me tell you, these little electrical gremlins can be tricky. With your Fiat Seicento at over a 100k km and its history of minor electrical issues, it may all be interconnected. It's quite common for older cars like ours to have these problems. The whole 'turn it off and on again' fix usually indicates some loose or corroded connections somewhere. Seeing as you already had a few problems, I'd recommend having a complete electrical system checkup while sorting out the door handle. It might cost a bit more, but could save you from future issues and peace of mind is priceless, right? These cars are solid besides a few quirks. Good luck with it and do share if you find out anything interesting at the workshop!

Hey again, You're right, the peace of mind would be worth the additional cost. One thing is for sure, I'm learning a lot more about the car's quirks. I’ll definitely ask for a comprehensive electrical system check-up when I take the car in. Appreciate your advice! Will indeed keep you posted on what I find out at the workshop. Here’s to hoping it’ll be smooth sailing from here! Cheers!
