Seeking Advice for Overheating Issues and Check Engine Light on 2018 Seat Tarraco

Overheating

Check engine light on

Hey guys, I've got a bit of a situation here with my 2018 Seat Tarraco, gas engine, with around 183,616 KM. Currently dealing with an overheating issue and that pesky check engine light is on. Given my bad luck with mechanics last time, I'm thinking it's a possible Coolant thermostat malfunction. Has anyone here dealt with a similar problem? I'd appreciate hearing about your experiences and any insights on dealing with mechanics. Cheers!

Hey, Yeah, I've had a similar issue on my 2015 Seat Leon a while back. Check engine light came on and I was dealing with overheating as well. Thought it was the thermostat too. But turned out, the problem was a bit more complex. The actual culprit was a damaged wiring harness. My mechanic ran a thorough scan and found that some of the wiring leading to the Coolant Temperature Sensor was frayed. It was definitely a serious issue, even though it wasn't immediately apparent. It wasn't just about replacing a part. The wires and connectors had to be checked over for any other unseen damage. The work in the garage was necessary, no way around it. That wiring harness connects and powers key elements in the car. It was sending wrong temperature signals to the Engine Control Unit (ECU), hence the overheating. Just remember to keep cool about it. Make sure the mechanic checks the whole system before jumping straight to replacing the thermostat. Sometimes the symptoms can throw you off, but the real problem might be elsewhere. Best of luck with the repairs!

Hey there, Interesting turn of events on your Seat Leon. My hunch was definitely leading me toward the thermostat, but the wiring harness mishap is a whole new ballpark. Good thing your mechanic dug deep enough to find the real issue. Mind if I ask, how much did it end up costing you to get all that wiring fixed up, and have you had any similar problems pop up since the repairs? Maybe something else related to the overheating? Thanks for sharing your experience. It's given me something to think about before I head over to the mechanic's. Cheers!

Hey there again, After taking my Seat Leon to the mechanic, just like you're about to do, they sorted out the coolant thermostat malfunction. They also took care of the wiring harness damage which, let me tell you, wasn't that cheap to fix - set me back about 170€ to be precise. Seems like a fair bit of coin, but considering it's the lifeline of the car's key systems, it's money well spent. Since getting the repairs done, I've had no further troubles related to the overheating issue or otherwise. Everything's running smoothly, fingers crossed it stays that way. As always, key is not to stress too much. Problems like these can pop up from time to time, especially with the kind of mileage we've got on our wheels. Your mechanic should have you sorted in no time. Best of luck with the fix! Cheers!

Hey, Thanks for following up! That price seems pretty justifiable considering it's linked to the car's vital systems. Hopefully, I'll be as lucky as you and won't encounter any more overheating issues or other problems once this is sorted. Got to admit, the unpredictability of these situations can be a bit nerve-racking but it's reassuring to hear positive outcomes like yours. I appreciate your advice and kind words. They've put everything back into perspective for me. I'm off to the mechanic's tomorrow, wish me luck! I'll update you guys on how it goes. Cheers!
