Seeking Advice for Persistent Engine Issues and Failure to Start in 2018 Seat Tarraco

Hey fellow car enthusiasts, I'm having a bit of a headache with my 2018 Seat Tarraco running on a Gasoline engine. She's been acting up recently with a bunch of issues including the check engine light that won't turn off, sudden engine cut-offs, loss of engine power, and unstable engine performance. To top that off, she now refuses to start at all. The speedometer’s warning light is also on and claims a fault is stored. My hunch is the engine control - but before I jump into conclusion, I wanted to ask if anyone here has experienced similar problems and managed to fix it? Could really use your insights and experiences on this. Thanks in advance!

Hey there, Had a something similar with my '16 Seat Leon, they're pretty close models. As far as car expertise goes, I'd say I've got a bit of experience under my belt. I faced an issue where my engine light would constantly stay on with unusual cut offs. Finally, after repeated issues, it refused to start. I took it to my local workshop where the technician informed me that there was a defective component which was causing the problem. I ended up shelling out about 625 Euro to get it fixed, a bit hefty, but it was needed. The root cause was a defective engine control unit - your hunch might be right! Before you start worrying though, could you tell me more about your car? Any recent repairs or part changes? Knowing more details about your car would actually allow me to share more targeted advice. Cheers!

Hey, Thanks for sharing your experience. I'm glad you got your car fixed without too much hassle. To answer your question, I have not made any recent repairs or part changes to the car - it has been driving smoothly until the problems popped up suddenly a few days back. The last service was done when it hit the 54698 KM mark, and there weren't any significant issues reported then. It's quite puzzling really to see such sudden change in its behavior. Would appreciate any further insights you might have. Thanks a lot!

Hi again, Sounds quite frustrating, I feel your pain. Interesting that there has been no changes or recent services that could potentially have stirred things up. In my case, the fault came almost out of nowhere too. When the engine control unit went kaput, it caused a whole chain of symptoms. It's like the brain of your car and when it’s not functioning properly, your car can't run smoothly. Still, it’s a pretty rare fault, it doesn't happen often. But, just remember that my experience is only one possible scenario. There might be other reasons for your engine trouble. I'd hesitate to offer definitive advice without having a proper look at your car. My suggestion is to take it to a professional mechanic or authorized service center. It might cost you a little more, but in the end, getting a proper diagnosis is worth it. Hope this is of help, good luck, and let us know how it goes! Cheers!

Hi again,, Your advice really hit home. I think you're spot on about having a professional take a look at it. It's worth paying for peace of mind and a sound diagnosis. I'll be sure to follow your advice and take my Tarraco to the local Seat service center. I'll keep you posted about what they find out. Once again, many thanks for your help! You've been a real friend. Stay safe and keep those engines revving! Cheers!
