Seeking advice for problems with ABS system and brake pedal on Skoda Octavia 2016

Hey guys, I'm having a bit of a problem with my 2016 Skoda Octavia. The ABS system is totally crazy, the warning light is on and the brake pedal doesn't react properly, it also feels kind of spongy. A warning light also flickers in the speedometer. I think it could be a signal error in the pressure sensor on the brake booster. Have any of you ever had the same problem and can give me some troubleshooting tips? Would like to know what was done in the workshop and what your experiences were. Thanks in advance

Summary of the thread

A 2016 Skoda Octavia is experiencing issues with the ABS system, indicated by a warning light and a spongy brake pedal. The problem might be related to a signal error in the pressure sensor on the brake booster. Suggested solutions include checking the brake master cylinder, ensuring the brake fluid level is adequate, and using an OBD2 scanner to read error codes before visiting a garage.

Hey, I had a similar problem with my 2014 Skoda Superb. I have to say that I have very little experience with cars. However, in my case it was the brake master cylinder that was faulty, not the pressure sensor. I had to take the car to the garage and have the brake master cylinder replaced, which cost me 430 euros. Of course, it could be something else in your case, but perhaps you should have it checked. Can you give me more details about your vehicle? Maybe then I can help you better.

Hey, thanks for your answer. So, my Octavia has a diesel engine and around 75000 km down so far. It was last serviced 6 months ago in a general inspection and there were no problems with the braking system then. I'm going to have the brake master cylinder checked, but I hope it won't be that expensive. Of course it could be something else, but I get a bad feeling when the brakes don't work as they should. Do you have any other tips on what I should look out for before I go to the garage? Thanks again for your help!

Hey, you're welcome! With the diesel engine and the 75000 km there are different factors that could be a problem, but with the ABS/DSC symptoms I would still always recommend checking the brake system. I can give you a little tip from my experience: check that the brake fluid level is OK, not that there's a leak or anything. Before you go to the workshop, you could perhaps try reading out any error codes with an OBD2 scanner, which has helped me several times. Otherwise, it's better to go to the garage sooner rather than later. As you say, the brakes are not to be trifled with. Hopefully it's not that expensive for you. Good luck with it!

Hey, thanks again for the great tips! I will check the brake fluid level and see if I can get an OBD2 scanner to read the fault codes. The brakes are really nothing to joke about and I won't hesitate to take my car to the garage. I also hope it won't be too expensive. Thanks for all your help and good advice. Take care!
