Seeking Advice for Troubleshooting 2018 Volvo S90's Navigation and Audio Systems

Hey there, fellow Volvo enthusiasts. I've got a 2018 S90, diesel with a decent run of about 177,917 KM. Lately, she's been acting up - the nav and audio systems are on the fritz. I'm suspecting something amiss with the radio reception antenna. Had a less than stellar experience at the shop last time, so I'm exploring other options first. Anyone out there tackled a similar gremlin? Any tips or mechanic suggestions would be mega appreciated! Cheers.

Hey there, I feel ya! I had a similar issue with my 2015 Volvo XC90 a while back. Everything was fine until the nav and audio system went haywire. After doing some digging I found out it was indeed the antenna causing the reception issues. We're lucky these systems are pretty independent, so it didn't affect the rest of the car's operation. Getting it fixed wasn't too bad actually. In my case, it turned out to be a worn-out antenna amplifier which was messing up my signal strength. It could be a similar problem with your Volvo too. Given the distance yours has covered, parts start to wear out, and it's just one of those things that happen, not necessarily a serious issue. Got it done at a local garage. If you're handy around your car, you may be able to do the fix yourself even. Hope this helps. Good luck with sorting it out!

Hey there, Massive thanks for the reply and reassurance. Sounds like my suspicions weren't misplaced then! I tend to tinker around my Volvo a fair bit, so taking a shot at fixing her up myself doesn't sound too daunting. Though I was curious, do you recall how much dosh it cost you get that antenna amplifier fixed at the garage? And since the repair, has anything else gotten out of whack? Cheers for the help!

Hey again, Happy to help! I shelled out around 255 quid to get the antenna amplifier replaced - for a well-executed job, I'd say it's not too steep. And in case you're worried, since ducking into the garage, the little bugger's been behaving immaculately. No other problems to speak of – at least nothing related to the prior issue. So, all the best with your own fixer-upper session or if you choose the mechanic route, rest easy dude! That pesky antenna issue should be old news in no time. Keep us posted on how it goes, yeah? Cheers!

Hi again, you're a lifesaver! A big relief to know it's not just me, and it's not a hide-and-seek kind of fault. And 255 pounds don't sound too bad if it's gonna give me peace of mind. Per your experience, fairly certain it's the antenna amplifier causing the mischief. I might just tinker around myself before deciding on the garage. Can't wait to get my classic Volvo radio humming again. Sure, I'll keep you posted about how things turn out. Fingers crossed for a successful operation, eh? Thanks a ton for your guidance. Cheers!

I have a V90 car. And unfortunately, the navigation is not active. The maps are there, but the navigation isn't working. I was told I need to take it to the dealership. I was told it would be activated after I pay a fee. Could you help me with this?

Check if your V90's navigation system requires a software update or activation code. Sometimes, navigation features are locked until a specific service or subscription is activated. Before heading to the dealership, try contacting Volvo customer support to confirm if there's a way to activate it yourself or if any updates are available. Let me know how it goes or if you have more questions!
