Seeking Advice on '01 Volvo XC70 GPS Antenna Issues

Hey there car enthusiasts, I've got a '01 Volvo XC70 gas guzzler with around 184,688 KM on the odometer and my GPS has recently gone AWOL. My hunch is a faulty GPS antenna. Anyone else run into this issue? And can you share your experience dealing with mechanics for this kinda fix? My last mechanic visit was a total nightmare so I'm looking for some advice. Thanks in advance!

Hey, I can totally relate to your predicament! I've got a '04 Volvo S60 and I faced a similar GPS antenna issue a while back. Mine went nutty and just stopped working. Turned out the antenna was the culprit, just as you suspect. There was some damage to the circuitry that was interfering with the GPS signals. It wasn't something trivial though. It involved the active electronics of the car and had an impact on the navigation system. My local mechanic sorted it out. It took some time as it involved diagnosing the issue, sourcing the right OEM part, and then the actual repair involving replacing the defective part. It was more of a mechanical process requiring the right skill set than a typical solution. So, going by my experience, you might want to brace yourself for a bit of downtime with your car. But aren't we all used to these little surprises our cars throw at us? :D I hope this helps you out! Cheers.

Hey, Wow, your situation sounds a lot like mine! Thanks for share your story, it really helps. Remember the ballpark cost of this repair by any chance? I'm trying to budget for it. Also, has anything else come up related to this since you got your GPS fixed? Cheers!

Hey again, Glad to hear my story was of some help to you. I do remember the cost for mending the GPS antenna, it came up to about 200€, give or take. It involved getting the right part and the labor for fitting it in, so you might want to keep this figure in your budget. Since the mechanic fixed it, everything's been shipshape! Nothing else popped up related to the GPS since. It's been smooth sailing, or should I say, 'smooth driving' from then on! Hope this eases your mind a bit more. Happy motoring! Cheers.

Hey again, Your insights have been super helpful! And 200€ isn't as bad as I expected. I'm kind of relieved to hear that you haven't had further issues after the fix – gives me hope for my old beast. Thanks a bunch for all the advice! I'll definitely reach out if I've got more questions. Cheers and happy cruising!
