Seeking Advice on '05 Volvo C70 Diesel's Erratic Shifting and Transmission Issues

Hey folks, I've got an '05 Volvo C70 diesel that's started acting up on me. Noticed erratic shifting, with the transmission slipping in and out plus a warning light on the speedo. I'm guessing it might be a faulty parking position switch for the auto transmission, but not 100% sure. Anyone else ever had this issue and managed to get it sorted out at their workshop? Would appreciate any tips or shared experiences. Cheers!

Hey there, I have an '03 Volvo S60 that had similar issues a while back. I'm no mechanic, but I'd say my car experience is middling. I took it to my local workshop and turns out, it was the transmission control unit acting up. Ended up setting me back about 1000 Euro to sort it all out. Just out of curiosity, has your vehicle had any prior transmission issues, and how many miles are on it currently? Might be able to give better advice with more information. Thanks!

Hey, appreciate the reply. No, this is the first time I'm facing transmission issues with this car. Could indeed be the transmission control unit then. I've got around 65057 KM on it, and the last service was just a few months back. Not sure if it matters, but it's worth mentioning I guess. Looks like I’ve got a visit to a mechanic in my near future. Thanks again!

No worries! Happy to help out. Your car's mileage isn't super high. But, that doesn't rule out potential issues with the transmission control unit or the parking position switch. Both could start giving trouble, you know, it's a machine after all. Also worth noting that sometimes a transmission problem can be mistaken for an engine issue and vice versa, so it can be tricky. When I had this issue, I also noticed a decrease in fuel efficiency. Did you notice the same? Sometimes these things are related. Good luck with the mechanic visit, hope you get it all sorted without much fuss. Oh, and one more thing! Make sure the mechanic does a thorough check. Don’t want to miss any potential problems down the line. Cheers!

Spot on. Machines can be quite unpredictable. I haven't particularly noticed a decrease in fuel efficiency, but I'll keep an eye out for this and make sure to mention it when I take the car in. Appreciate the heads up about engine issues being mistaken for transmission problems, and vice versa. I'll make sure the mechanic gives it a thorough check indeed. Thanks for the sound advice—it's been more helpful than you know! I'll let you know how it goes once I've visited the workshop. Cheers!
