Seeking Advice on 2003 Lexus SC Overheating Issue and Check Engine Light Related to Controlled Air Damper
Summary of the thread
A 2003 Lexus SC is experiencing overheating and a check engine light issue, suspected to be related to the controlled air damper. A similar problem in another Lexus model was caused by a faulty radiator shutter wiring harness. Another potential cause could be a malfunctioning thermostat regulator, which can lead to overheating and trigger the check engine light. The recommended solution is to have the vehicle inspected by a professional to accurately diagnose and resolve the issue.

Hey! Thanks for chiming in. That could very well be the reason! I've rolled up to 122,593 KM on this ol' beaut, just for your info. Fresh from the latest service too, didn't notice anything odd back then. Might just have it checked out by a professional, hopefully, I won't be paying too much. Cheers for the help!

Hey again, With that kind of mileage on your ride, weird things can indeed start popping up. Given that your car is fresh from service, this could potentially be connected to something they worked on. Don't panic yet though! Now, when it comes to the overheating and engine light, another thing that crossed my mind is the thermostat regulator. If your thermostat isn't functioning correctly, it won't be able to control the temperature of your engine properly, causing it to overheat. Not to mention, it will also trigger the check engine light. Happened once in my Lexus IS, similar age as your SC, so worth checking. Ultimately, it could be several things, but your path of taking it to a professional is best. Just drop an update once you get it inspected so we can all learn from it. Best of luck!

Hey again, Will definitely keep an eye on the thermostat regulator, thanks for suggesting that. Makes total sense, didn't think of that. Totally agree on learning from this, I'll update when I've figured out the actual issue. Cheers for all your advice, really helped me out!

Hey there, Hmm, sounds like a bit of a puzzler. So, I had a considerate experience with my 2002 Lexus IS. I’m no professional mechanic, but I’ve messed enough with my car to know a thing or two. I remember having a similar overheat issue and, just like your case, the engine light was on as well. Turns out, the radiator shutter wiring harness behind the bumper was busted. Had to dish out around 215 Euro for the fix in the workshop. Just like me, it might be your culprit too. However, without more vehicle information, I can’t say for sure. Things like the model, mileage, recent repairs could help me help you better. Let us know more!
