Seeking Advice on 2008 Kia Pro Ceed Engine Problems: Power Loss, Jerking, Poor Fuel Economy, and Potential Knock Sensor Issues
Summary of the thread
The conversation centers around a 2008 Kia Pro Ceed experiencing engine problems, including power loss, jerking during acceleration, poor fuel economy, and a strange engine noise. The initial suspicion is a faulty knock sensor. However, based on similar past experiences shared, the issue might be due to defective cables or plugs. The suggested solution is to inspect and possibly replace these components before addressing the knock sensor, as this resolved similar symptoms in another vehicle.

Hey, thanks for chipping in! My Pro Ceed runs on petrol. She's got quite a bit of road under her wheels, with the odometer reading 123687 km. To be honest, I haven't checked the cables/plugs, so I'll definitely give that a shot before messing with the knock sensor. Had the last service done only a few months ago and these problems just seemed to spring up out of nowhere. It's a bit of a downer, but hey, fingers crossed it's something as minor as a dodgy cable! Cheers!

Heya, glad I could chip in! If you've clocked up more than 123k km on your Pro Ceed, these kinds of issues become more likely. The good news is, there's nothing catastrophic about it. I also had the engine light come on a few years back on my Sorento and bad cable/plug was causing the trouble. Engine was not running smoothly, got poor fuel economy and there was that jerky sensation during acceleration too. Sound familiar? After the cable plug replacement, it was like a new lease of life - all the symptoms disappeared. So I'd definitely suggest you get those checked out first. Keep us updated and good luck! I'm sure your Pro Ceed will be back to its usual self in no-time! Cheers.

Hey, appreciate the comforting words and advice! Definitely sounds like you had a similar situation with your Sorento. Honestly, hearing your experience reduces my worry a lot. I'm setup for checking the plugs and cables in the morning, hoping it might just do the trick. That would definitely be a relief! I'll certainly keep you updated on how things progress! Fingers crossed! Thanks again for chipping in and good luck with your Sorento too! Cheers!

Hey! I had something similar happen with my 2006 Kia Sorento. I'd say I have a bit of car knowledge, not an expert but not a complete novice either. In my case, it wasn't the knock sensor, but a defective cable/plug. Took it to my local garage, and they sorted it out for me. It cost me around 95€. Now, your issue might be different, but it's worth checking out. Is your Kia Pro Ceed a diesel or petrol model? And what's the mileage? That could help to narrow down the problem.
