Seeking Advice on 2012 Nissan Quest Engine Light and Transmission Issues

Hey folks, I'm dealing with a problem on my 2012 Nissan Quest. Gas engine type, and recently my check engine light has come on and transmission feels all sorts of weird; shifting's erratic and it slips sometimes. I've been thinking that possibly the transmission selector lever is acting up, but I'd love some insight from you guys. Anyone faced the same problems or have any tips on troubleshooting? Would also appreciate if you guys could share your workshop experiences or fixes for a situation like this. Thanks in advance!

Hey, stumbled upon your post and it rang a bell. I've got a bit of experience, nothing too fancy though. I got a similar issue with my 2010 Nissan Murano a while back. Same brand, almost same age with your model. The culprit was the cable connection on the selector lever, just like you thought. Getting it fixed at my local workshop was quite smooth, although it set me back 365 Euro. They did a quality job, haven't faced any more problems in gear shifting after that. Before I can give more detailed thoughts, could you let me know more about your car's current condition? Like, is it giving any other signals or noise, or is it willfully moving into wrong gears? More info would help draw a better picture. Cheers!

Hey, appreciate the quick reply! Good to hear you've tackled something similar and managed to rectify it. To answer your questions, besides the erratic shifting and occasional slipping, the car generally vibrates more than usual. Oh and about the wrong gears, yes, it's happened a couple of times - rather terrifying I have to say. That's about it with the noises and signals, nothing else I've picked up on. Oh, forgot to mention, I got my last service at the 40928 KM mark and nothing seemed out of the ordinary then. Thanks for lending an ear, looking forward to your thoughts on this! Cheers!

Hey there, wow, your situation sounds really similar to what I was facing! Seems like the vibrations might be related to the transmission issue. The going-into-wrong-gears scenario is certainly nerve-wracking, right? It was indeed a hair-raising experience when that happened to me in traffic. From what you've shared, it does seem like it could be the cable connection like in my case, but it also might be a problem with the transmission control module (TCM), which is causing the erratic shifting. Have you ever had the TCM checked? If not, it may need looking into. You might also want to get the entire transmission system evaluated, just to be on the safe side. With this in mind and provided there's a decent auto workshop nearby, maybe it's worthwhile to pop over and have them run a diagnostic on the transmission - either just a general check or a specific focus on TCM and selector lever. Cost me 365 Euro to get it fixed like I mentioned earlier, but at least the peace of mind it brought was invaluable! Remember to leave no stone unturned. It's best to get all these things checked out before it leads to something more serious or potentially dangerous. Let me know how it goes. Good luck!

Hey! I can't thank you enough for the detailed response and your concern means a lot! Now that you mention it, I don't particularly recall getting the TCM looked at, so it could very well be that. And yeah, the thought of things turning serious is downright scary, especially with the wrong-gears bit you mentioned. Getting a proper diagnostic makes perfect sense. There's a good garage not far off where I live, so I'll definitely pay them a visit and get things checked out. The expense is lesser of an evil than losing peace of mind indeed. I'll keep you posted on what turns up and how it goes. Thanks again for taking the time to help me out with this! Cheers!
