Seeking Advice on 2014 Kia Pro Ceed Problems: Black Smoke, Random Shutdowns, and Fuel Consumption Issues

Engine shuts off by itself

Check engine light on

Stalling while idling

Poor fuel economy

Loss of engine power

Unsteady engine

Black smoke from exhaust on acceleration

Jerking on acceleration

Strong exhaust smell

Hey! I've got a bit of a headache with my 2014 Kia Pro Ceed having a gasoline engine. Lately, it's giving off black smoke when I accelerate, the engine light's on, it out of nowhere shuts off and I've noticed a drop in power. To top it off, the engine's not sitting right, jerks on acceleration, burning through fuel like it's going out of style, and there's a strong smell from the exhaust. Also, it stalls while idling which is a new phenomenon. I'm wondering if it might be a problem with the fuel level sensor, but I'm here to gather more thoughts and insights. Can anyone share their past experiences dealing with this type of situation and how you got it sorted out at the workshop? I'm all ears! Cheers.

Hey! I have some experience with car issues, after all the bumps and humps with my own ride, a pretty similar 2012 Kia Optima. I'm not a mechanic pro, but I do have my fair share of garage tales. Your problem screams Wiring harness/plug defective to me because I faced a near identical mess a while back. My Kia suffered from power loss and swallowed petrol like a thirsty camel, along with the same unusual cut outs. Wrench lights giving me headaches, the whole shebang. I took my wheels to the local workshop where they linked it to faulty wiring and plugs. They tinkered around a bit and viola, fixed it all up for a neat €95. You might wanna check up on that yourself, but I reckon your Honda also needs a similar touch. Pay attention to its firmware too, might also play a part. Either way, hand it over to a professional to get the exact diagnosis and fixed up real good! But hey, could you tell me a bit more about your ride? Any customizations, estimated mileage, last service, basically every tiny detail that might help with the problem? More the merrier, you know.

Hey there! Appreciate the helpful insight. My Kia's a pretty standard model, no major customizations to talk of since I like keeping it neat and original. The last service was done about three months back, oil change and regular maintenance mainly. Mileage on the car is currently around 146529 KM, so she's been on the road a fair bit. About the wiring harness/plug, I'll definitely get that checked out. It hadn't crossed my mind before to be honest, but your experience sounds eerily similar. I'll also make sure the firmware is given a look. Time to pay a visit to the old garage I reckon. Thanks again! Will update you on how it all turns out.

Hey, happy to help! Your Kia's mileage level isn't too bad, considering the model. It has done some serious roadwork though, so little problems here and there are to be expected! Getting the wiring harness/plug checked is a strong lead, especially given your symptoms match mine so closely. If the issue is indeed the same, fixing it should hopefully solve most, if not all, of the current issues. And yeah, definitely worth keeping an eye on the firmware, it sneakily causes more issues than you'd think! Based on your previous service timeline, you seemed to have kept up a good routine. But remember our feisty machines sometimes need a bit more tender, loving care - It's always a good idea to give 'em a thorough once-over more often when they start acting up. Looking forward to your update after your garage visit. Good luck, and fingers crossed it's nothing too severe! Cheers!

Thanks! Your words are pricking up my hopes. Great to know that my Kia's symptoms aren't a lost cause based on your experience. I've taken note of your advice, and now I'm setting my sights on getting a thorough check done, focusing on the wiring/harness plug and firmware. I'll also try to be more attentive moving forward. Perhaps it's time to shorten those service intervals especially now that she seems to be having these problems. Will surely keep you posted on the outcome! Thank you a heap! Catch you later! Cheers!
