Seeking Advice on 2015 Kia Optima Power Loss, Check Engine Light, and DPF Regeneration Failure Issues

DPF regeneration failure

Fault stored

Loss of engine power

Check engine light on

Hey, got a weird issue with my 2015 Kia Optima running on Gasoline. It's been losing power and the check engine light keeps popping on. I also noticed a DPF regeneration failure and a stored fault - no fun at all! My guess is there might be a problem with the exhaust back pressure sensor, but I'm not totally sure. Have any of you experienced anything like this? If so, how was it sorted out at your workshop? Any tips for narrowing down the issue and tackling it would be greatly appreciated!

Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 2013 Kia Forte which also runs on Gasoline. I'm no car expert, but I've got some experience under my belt. My ride started losing power and it turned out to be DPF severely overloaded. Took it to my usual workshop, those guys are awesome. They did some diagnostics, found the DPF was indeed the culprit and fixed it. Cost me around 1325 Euro. Sounds kind of familiar to your situation, right? But here's the thing, every car's different and your issue might not mirror mine completely. Could you tell me more about your Optima? Particularly, its mileage and how often you drive it? Maybe I can help a bit more if I get these details. Cheers!

Hey! Thanks for sharing your experience, it definitely helps. My Optima has clocked about 86254 KM so far. I drive it pretty regularly, mostly for commuting to work and the occasional weekend road trip. Serviced it recently too, still the issues persist. I think I’ll follow your route and get a professional diagnosis done just to be sure. Fingers crossed it won't be as expensive! Cheers to you for the handy tips!

Hey there again! Glad to hear my previous experience was of some help. Given the mileage and frequency of your use, your Optima is definitely not out of the ordinary. And you're doing the right thing by getting it serviced regularly, good job on that! The issue could quite possibly be the DPF, as in my case since our scenarios look pretty familiar. Although the exhaust back pressure sensor could be a cause, it's less likely given the other symptoms you mentioned. But of course, a professional diagnosis will clarify things. In terms of cost, if it's the DPF, it might be a bit pricey because it involves some specialized work. But it usually sorts out the problem for good. Keep us posted on how it goes, and fingers crossed it's something simpler and less pricey for you! Keep on truckin’.

No problem, happy to help out a fellow driver! With that kind of mileage and regular usage, desiring solid performance from your Optima is totally valid. I strongly support your idea of getting a professional diagnosis - sometimes things aren't as they seem and it requires a pro's touch! You're right, it could be the DPF getting clogged or the back pressure sensor acting up, but only a detailed inspection can precisely point that out. Now coming to the costs, if it really is the DPF, remember it's a costly fix but worth it for a smooth ride in the long run. But, let's stay optimistic and hope for a less expensive diagnosis! Keep me in the loop about what happens next. Until then, happy motoring and take it easy!
