Seeking Advice on 2023 Seat Tarraco Diesel Engine Issues: Check Engine Light, Poor Fuel Efficiency, and Exhaust Smell

Hey folks, I'm wrangling an issue with my 2023 Seat Tarraco, Diesel engine. Been noticing the check engine light's on, bad fuel efficiency, and a serious exhaust smell. I'm suspecting the air valve might be to blame here, but I'd love to hear your thoughts. Anyone ever had this trouble and can share how your workshop handled this? Really appreciate your advice, thank you.

Hey there! I faced a pretty similar issue with my 2021 Seat Ateca, Diesel too. Now, I'm no mechanic, but I'd say I've some experience with cars. I took mine to the local workshop and turns out I had a defective Cable/plug connection with the secondary air valve/secondary air pump. The mechanic managed to sort it relatively cheaply - cost me 95.00 Euro, exactly. Still, you should absolutely bring it to your local workshop and have them take a look, just to be safe. Also, could you share more about your car's overall condition and recent repairs? Having more info would help to give you a more accurate idea. Cheers!

Hey, thanks for sharing your experience! My Tarraco's mileage is at 162712 KM at the moment, and I just had it serviced about three months ago. They didn't report any other potential issues at that time apart from the usual oil change and brake check. Now given the stuff I described earlier, I'm wondering if they missed something back then. I'll definitely book an appointment at my local garage and let them have a thorough look. Thanks again for your advice!

No problem! With that mileage, it could be a matter of overall wear and tear too. My Ateca had less than 100,000 KM on it when I dealt with this issue. It's worth mentioning, during my repair, they emphasized the importance of regularly checking and replacing the air valves and pumps - part of preventive maintenance I guess. Given your last service didn't identify any issues, maybe it just kicked in after. Also, do keep an eye on your car's overall performance, see if there are any noticeable differences after the fix, especially regarding fuel economy and exhaust smell. It's these subtle signs that clue us into what's going wrong under the hood. Do let us know how it goes at the workshop!

Oh right, that makes sense! I reckon the mileage might be a contributing factor too and perhaps it was just bad timing that the issue started showing up after the service. I'll pop into the garage and ask them to check the air valves and pumps like you suggested, and I'll keep an eye out for any improvements in fuel economy and the exhaust smell once it's all sorted. Yep, will definitely keep you updated about what they find! Cheers for the guidance!
