Seeking Advice on Fixing Non-Functional Steering Wheel Buttons on 2014 Volvo XC60 Hybrid

Hey folks, I'm having a weird issue with my 2014 Volvo XC60 Hybrid. The buttons on my multifunction steering wheel have stopped working out of the blue. Could it be an error with the steering wheel itself? If any of you have experienced this, could you please share how you diagnosed and fixed it? What was your experience like at the workshop? Cheers for any help.

Hey there, I had a similar issue with my 2016 Volvo XC90 a while back. I ain't no mechanic, but I do know my way around cars a bit. Took it to my local workshop and turned out the issue was with the cables in the steering wheel, they were defective. Cost me a cool 95 Euro to get it sorted. What's the mileage on your XC60? And have you noticed any other issues lately? Might help to diagnose your problem and recommend a more specific solution. Hope this helps and you’ll have it sorted soon.

Appreciate the quick response! My XC60's at 96750 kilometers now and had its last service a few months back. Haven't really noticed any other issues - it's been running smooth until this popped up. Going by your experience, I feel like it could be the cables in my case too. Probably should get it checked soon. Thanks for the advice!

No worries! Going by your mileage and the recent service, it does sound like the cables could be the issue. Sometimes even a slight defect can disrupt the circuit between the buttons and the system. The good news is, it's not an overly expensive fix. Just for the heck of it, you might wanna have a look in the fuse box and check your fuses, specifically the one for the steering wheel controls just to rule that out. If it ain't that, then your local workshop should be able to help you out. I know it's a bit of a pain, especially when everything else seems to be running like a dream, but hey, cars can be fickle things, can't they? Let me know how you get on. Best of luck!

Yeah, you're right about the fickle part! Never thought of checking the fuse box so I'll give that a shot before heading to the workshop. Fingers crossed it's something as simple and cheap as replacing a fuse. If not, at least I have a clue now about what to expect. Really appreciate your help with this, the advice was spot-on! Cheers, I'll keep you posted on how things turn out. Thanks again!
