Seeking Advice on Hyundai i10 Electric Handbrake Issues

Hey, got a '11 Hyundai i10 with a petrol engine, just ticked over 71,058km. Lately, I've been having a bit of trouble with the electric handbrake - it's just not working as it should. Last trip to the garage wasn't the best experience, so very keen to hear if any of you have come across similar issues? All advice or shared experiences on how your local mechanic handled it would be super appreciated!

Hey, ran into something similar with my 2014 Hyundai i20 not long ago. Was dealing with a faulty electric motor in the brake caliper. It's a pretty critical issue 'cause it interferes with the car's braking capability. A bit of a headache if you ask me because you can't just have anything messing with your brakes, safety first you know. So here's what my mechanic did - had to dismantle the whole brake unit from the car, replace the defective electric motor, and put everything back together. He also tested the system thoroughly to ensure it was working properly again. Honestly, without proper knowledge, it would have been a terrible job to do myself. Good luck with yours, dude!

Cheers for the reply. Sounds like you had a bit of a care on your hands there, but glad to hear your mechanic was up to the task. By the way, do you remember how much it set you back to get that motor replaced and everything back up to scratch? And since getting it fixed, have you noticed any other issues cropping up?

Hey, glad to help out. The whole repair with the replacement of the defective motor in the brake caliper was a bit of a hit to the wallet, not gonna lie. It cost me around 505 quid. But, honestly, money well spent for peace of mind while driving. As for any other issues since the fix... Nope, zilch! The mechanic really did a top-notch job. The electric handbrake's been performing like a dream since then. So if you're dealing with something similar, I'd say don't fret too much once it's in the hands of a good mechanic. Safe motoring!

Thanks a bunch for the insights. Bit steep on the cost, but like you said, better safe than sorry, especially when it’s about brakes. I'll make sure to find a reliable mechanic for the job. Your experience with the fix gives me some hope - looking forward to a smooth handbrake soon! Drive safe, cheers!
