Seeking Advice on Kia Bongo's Battery Discharge and Dimming Lights

Hey! I've got a bit of a situation with my 2003 Kia Bongo with a Gasoline engine and it's clocked up around 69019 KM. My car's been having a few issues - starting up has been tough due to a weak battery, and my lights, both inside and out, are looking dim and start flickering at times. Based on my previous mechanic visit (let's just say it didn't go super smooth), I'm guessing it could somehow be a severely discharged battery due to self-discharge. Has anyone had any similar experiences with their rides and their trips to the mechanic shop? A bit of guidance or shared experiences would be really helpful. Thanks in advance!

Hey there! I've got a 2000 Kia Joice and I experienced similar issues a while back. My lights would flicker now and then, and my car had a rough time starting up. Thought it was just the battery at first, but turns out it was the control unit acting up. During my last garage visit, it seemed quite serious. They had to check all the electrical systems, running several tests, and finally figured that it was the defective control unit causing the trouble. The controls would misinterpret signals, creating these weird battery and light issues. With the control unit, it can lead to several problems if not taken care of in time. It's often a bit tricky to determine if that's the issue, but with your symptoms, there's a good chance it might be the same. Don't ignore it. You should probably take it to a trusted mechanic and get it checked. Let me tell you, it wasn't an easy fix but once it was sorted, things went back to normal. No more struggling to start up and no more spooky dimming lights. So, trust me, it's worth getting it looked at!

Wow, sounds like your Kia Joice really put you through the ringer! Definitely has me thinking about my own bongo situation in a different light. I appreciate the heads up about the control unit– hadn't even considered that it might be the culprit but it's starting to make a lot of sense. I'm not too keen on testing my luck any further, so I think I'll take your advice and get it checked out by a mechanic I trust. Do you happen to remember what that little misadventure set you back though? Also, has anything else cropped up since you got the control unit fixed, like any other electrical related problems? Cheers for the advice really appreciate it!

Hey again! Yeah, it was quite a ride with my good old Joice! About your curiosities, fixing the control unit had me shelling out 600 Euro - not exactly pocket change, I know! But, you know what? It was worth every penny. Since getting that sorted, all has been well. The start-up issue and flickering lights? All gone. Post-repair, the battery issue cleared up pretty nicely too. I suspected it was severely discharged because of self-discharge, but guess what? Once they fixed the control unit, the battery problem vanished too. So while it might seem a little steep cost-wise, fixing the control unit was definitely the right move in the long run. No additional electrical gremlins for me and best of all, peace of mind! Take it easy and look after that Bongo!

Ah, that's a bit of a sting to the wallet, but with the peace of mind you got, sounds like it was worth it. Definitely don't want my battery draining overnight and leaving me stranded, that's for sure. With you not having any more electrical problems since getting the control unit sorted, it's put me more at ease. I'll get in touch with a good mechanic I know and set up an appointment for my Bongo sooner than later. I'd rather shell out for solid service than what happened with my last mechanic visit. Thanks for taking the time to share your experience! You've been a massive help. Be well, drive safe, and keep the rubber side down!
