Seeking Advice on Misaligned, Dim, and Flickering Headlights on 2016 Volvo S90 Petrol Variant

Dim or flickering lights

Low beam and high beam seems too high or too low

Hey folks, I'm dealing with a puzzling issue on my 2016 Volvo S90, petrol variant. I've noticed the high and low beams are not aligned as they should be. Plus, the lights seem quite dim and occasionally flicker too. I've got a hunch it might be due to some indicator defect. Has anyone else experienced similar issues and could share a few troubleshooting pointers? What was your repair experience like at the workshop? Cheers!

Hey there, I had a similar issue with my 2014 Volvo V90, just a couple of years older than your ride. I'm no mechanic, but I've dealt with a thing or two with my car. Turned out for mine, it was indeed a lamp issue. Went to my local workshop and they diagnosed a faulty headlamp. Had to shell out about €102.50 for a new lamp and the fitting. It was quick and easy though. But hey, every car's different. Could you share any more details about your S90? Like when does the flickering happen or does it adjust properly when you're driving uphill? More data can help in narrowing down the problem. Be sure to get any wiring checked too, just to be on the safe side. Good luck!

Hey there, cheers for the feedback! That ballpark figure is super helpful. The flickering is completely random, sometimes it happens when I start the car, sometimes mid-journey. Even driving uphill doesn't seem to affect it. Mileage is around 184,728 KM, and the last service was about two months back, they didn't find anything off at that time. Oh, and it's not just headlights, even the cabin lights dim occasionally. I'll definitely check out the wiring thing, sounds worth the attention. Thanks again for the pointers!

Hey, no worries! Thanks for getting back with more info about the issue. The varied flickering times and cabin lights dimming suggest you might be dealing with a bit more than just faulty headlamps. It could be a regulator issue or something related to the car's electrical system at large. Just for comparison, I had some electrical woes a while back that caused my V90's radio and central locking system to go haywire at random times. Went to my local repair guy, and to my surprise, it was a corroded ground cable throwing off the whole system. A fix wasn't that costly (about €25 for the cable and a tad extra for labor). Since you’re saying that flickering happens randomly - could be, that your S90 has a similar issue. Definitely worth exploring the wiring and electrical system when you go in for a check-up. Don’t let it freak you out - these things can sound worse than they are, and often don't cost an arm and a leg to sort. Stay safe, and keep us updated on what you find out!

Hey, I really appreciate all the info you've shared! Interesting to know your experience with the V90 and the electrical issues. I'd not considered a regulator or grounding cable issue - that's some food for thought there. Thanks a ton for putting my worries at ease, these car issues can frazzle the best of us, eh? I'll make a note of these points and ensure they get checked at the garage. Will keep you all posted on what goes down. Thanks once more, and safe driving to you! Cheers!
