Seeking Advice on Non-defrosting Exterior Mirror in 2021 Renault Arkana Hybrid Model

Hey fellow car enthusiasts, I'm having a bit of a situation with my 2021 Renault Arkana, hybrid model, with around 39K km on it. The stinking mirror won't defrost - goes all frosty in cold weather. I'm thinking it's either a dodgy exterior mirror or the heater's not pulling its weight. Anyone ever run into this? Kinda hesitant to trust mechanics after a recent rip-off. All advice on how you've dealt with similar problems and how your mechanic managed the situation would be super appreciated!

Summary of the thread

A 2021 Renault Arkana Hybrid owner is experiencing issues with a non-defrosting exterior mirror, which becomes frosty in cold weather. The problem may be due to a faulty exterior mirror or a malfunctioning heater. A similar issue in a Renault Koleos was resolved by fixing a defective cable connection for the mirror heater, suggesting a potential solution for the Arkana. The owner plans to visit a trusted garage to diagnose and address the issue, prioritizing safety despite potential repair costs.

Hey there, I'm driving a 2018 Renault Koleos and had a similar issue not too long ago. It turned out to be a defective cable connection for the mirror heater, nothing to do with the mirror itself or the cabin heater. Took the car to the local garage, and they had to tinker a bit to figure it out as the diagnostics weren't throwing anything too obvious at them. Once they did, they needed to replace the whole plug and reconnect it to the mirror defrost system. Yes, it was something serious because without the mirror defrost function, visibility becomes an issue in wintry conditions, but the fix wasn't too complex once the issue was diagnosed. It wasn't an easy fix, but it wasn't the end of the world either. Get that checked out soon. Stay safe on the road!

Hey, Your answer is spot on, that could be what's going on with my Arkana too. Really appreciate your tip about the mirror defrost issue. Has your Koleos stayed frost-free since then? Also, I was wondering if you recall how much you had to shell out for the repairs at your local garage? Im trying to get an idea so I can brace myself. Fixing cars, no matter how minor, tends to hurt the wallet!

Hey! You're right, car repairs can leave a serious hole in the pocket, but sometimes it's necessary for safe driving, especially in challenging weather. About the Koleos, yup, since the fix there's been zero frost build-up on the mirror, it's working as good as new! Now, brace yourself a little... The total cost to fix the faulty cable connection came to 155€. It wasn't particularly cheap, but seeing the mirror defrost properly in the cold has made me realize it was necessary expense, given the improved visibility and driving safety. So, if it's the same issue with your Arkana, it could be in the same ballpark. Just thought it's better you know upfront. Safe driving!

Hey there, Thanks a million for your helpful advice and honesty about the cost, much appreciated. It sure is a blow to the wallet, but hearing about the improved visibility on your Koleos, I guess it is a necessary expense considering how frosty it can get. I'll take my Arkana to a trusted local garage to check if it's the same issue. Darn, car repairs, they are a pain, but as they say, 'safety first'. Cheers, thanks for your help, and safe driving to you too!
