Seeking Advice on Troubleshooting Brake and ABS/DSC System Issues in 2013 Lexus CT200h
Summary of the thread
The 2013 Lexus CT200h is experiencing brake issues, with the ABS/DSC system not functioning and the ABS light illuminated. The brake pedal feels spongy and unresponsive, and there's a warning light on the speedometer. The suspected cause is a faulty pressure sensor on the brake booster, but it could also be due to an improperly bled brake system or a faulty ABS module. Suggested solutions include checking the brake fluid level, reading the ABS codes for a clearer diagnosis, and possibly replacing the ABS module if necessary. Regular maintenance and a thorough inspection at a local garage are recommended.

Hey! Look like we're in the same boat here, had a similar issue with my old girl at around 150k km. I'll tell you what, it turned out to be the ABS module for me. Had to replace the whole damn thing. Start by checking the brake fluid level like our suggested. Then, I'd recommend getting the ABS codes read, it'll give you a clearer picture of what's going on. My bet’s on the ABS module but a faulty sensor might be your culprit too. And no, didn't have any recent repairs, the last service was done when the odometer was at 158053 km, just usual stuff, oil change, filters etc. Hope this helps and keep us posted! Cheers.

G'day Just read your response and thought I'd add more from my experience. As I mentioned earlier, the spongy brake issue on my 2015 ES350 turned out to be due to improper bleeding of the brake system. But the underlying issue can definitely differ, especially since you mentioned that the ABS/DSC system isn't working and there's an ABS light showing up on your dash. In addition to what I already mentioned, it's also worth noting that having ABS issues whether due to a faulty ABS module, sensor, or some other component, can indeed make your brakes feel spongy or unresponsive. The pressure distribution that the ABS system is responsible for might be getting hampered, leading to an irregular brake response. So yeah, getting those ABS codes read as suggested by our friend here would be a solid starting point. You'll likely get closer to diagnosing the issue after that. Keep in mind, it's always a good practice to get your car regularly serviced, despite no visible issues. Stay on top of your game with car maintenance, and keep us in the loop. This forum's got your back! Take care.

Hey, thanks guys! Wow, you here are really helpful. Cheers to that! I'll be sure to check the brake fluid levels and grab those ABS codes as soon as possible. Didn't really consider the ABS system playing a part in sponginess. I'm not a gearhead, so this is all invaluable knowledge for me, really. Just for the record, there's not been any recent service. Last checkup was regular oil change-nothing major. Though, considering how things are shaping up, a thorough review at the local garage is imminent. Will get back to everyone once I slice through this thicket. Fingers crossed it's something minor. Thanks for all your advice. Tight lines!

Hey there, Just to share my two cents, I've had a similar issue on my 2015 Lexus ES350. Not a pro or anything, but I have some experience dealing with car stuff. My brakes felt spongy as well, and the ABS light popped on. Turned out, my car's brake system was incorrectly bled. Took it to my local workshop, and they re-bled the system properly which sorted out the issue. Cost me about 90 Euro, fair enough I reckon. However, it could be due to another reason as well on your car, so gonna need more info here. Did you check your brake fluid level or has the car faced any recent repairs? Let's get to the bottom of this.
