Seeking Advice on Troubleshooting Central Locking Issues in a 2004 Nissan Kubistar
(Translated from German)
Summary of the thread
The conversation centers around troubleshooting central locking issues in a 2004 Nissan Kubistar. The main problem involves intermittent failures in both the locks and the key fob. A similar issue in a 2002 Nissan Primastar was resolved by addressing corroded cable connections, which were affecting the locking system's reliability. The suggested solution is to conduct a diagnostic test at a garage to determine if the cables or other factors are causing the problem.

Hey, Appreciate the info! My ride hit 173625 km on the last trip, so she's an old dame but still kicking. So far it's both the locks and the fob acting up. They work alright sometimes and then outta nowhere, pfft! Nada. Sounds like your cable connection fix might be on my horizon too. If you could share any more details on what caused the issue in your Primastar, that'd be awesome. Thanks a lot for your help!

Hey again, Ah, the old dames with their quirks! Sounds all too familiar. Okay, so with my Primastar the issue was, the cables connecting to the central locking had become a bit corroded over time. Between that and some general wear and tear, it made the locking system functions unreliable. When they checked it out, they also noticed that the key fob wasn't communicating properly with the car, which most likely was due to the same cable issue. As for the corrosion, it could happen because of external factors i.e. salt on roads, moisture, etc. A visual check in some cases can confirm this. But as this is a bit in-depth, you might need a decent diagnostic test at the garage to pin it down. That should give you some closure on whether it’s the cables or something else. Hope that helps a bit more! It's not a definitive answer, but might give you a start for what to look into with your Kubistar's niggles. Best of luck with it!

Hey, Ah, those pesky cables; kinda like veins for a car, eh! The corrosion aspect is starting to click now, especially with all the grime and salts our roads wear in these parts. Fair enough then, I reckon I'll be taking this old girl to the shop for a proper diagnostic as you suggested. You've been a champ, really appreciated your insights and sharing your experiences. At the least, I got a good starting point now. My Kubistar will surely thank you when she's back on the road without problems. Cheers for the help, take care, and happy motoring!

Hey there, So, I had a similar sticky issue with my 2002 Nissan Primastar last year. To give you an idea of my car knowledge, I only have some experience, not a mechanic or anything. I took it to my local garage and they found out that the Cable connection was defective. They replaced it and that ended up costing me about 155 Euro. Without knowing more about your exact issue, that's my best guess. Do both your locks and fob work intermittently, or is it more one than the other? I might be able to dig out more detailed info from my previous repair if I know more about your situation.
