Seeking Advice on Troubleshooting Headlight Range Control Issues in 2004 Volvo V50 Diesel
(Translated from German)
Summary of the thread
A 2004 Volvo V50 Diesel is experiencing issues with headlight range control, causing both low and high beams to be misaligned and triggering a warning light on the speedometer. A potential cause identified is a defective servomotor in the headlight system. The suggested solution is to have the servomotor checked and possibly replaced by a mechanic, as this has resolved similar issues in other vehicles.

Hi, Thanks for your input, I appreciate it! My car's been running for about 78,499 KM km and had its last service a couple of months back. I haven't had to do any significant repairs recently- it's been pretty smooth, apart from this current headlight range issue. I'll definitely take your advice and have the servomotor checked. 1040 Euro does sound hefty but if it resolves the problem, I'll consider it money well spent. Fingers crossed it's not anything major. Will keep you updated. Thanks again!

Hey again, No worries, glad to help! Your car mileage seems pretty okay for its age, so it does strengthen the suggestion that it might be the servomotor. Might just be its time, you know how it is with cars - unpredictable at times. Just a heads-up, the cost I mentioned was inclusive of parts and labor and it might still vary a bit depending on where you live and who does the work. But yeah, despite the cost, having fully functional headlights is vital for safety. I reckon your last service was routine then? No big problems? Besides, as you've not had significant repairs lately, it indicates the good condition of your ride except for the light issue. Anyway, do let me know how it goes with the headlight check. Fingers crossed for you, hope it's just the servomotor. Drive safe!

Hello again, Absolutely, fully functional headlights are a must. And yes, the last service was just routine, nothing big. I always try to keep it in top-shape; after all, prevention is better than cure! I've already booked an appointment with my trusted local mechanic to have the headlight issue checked out this weekend. It's great to have a potential cause in mind when talking to them, thanks to you. You're right about car expenses; I suppose at this mileage and age, repairs don't come as a big surprise. It's a good reminder that maintaining a vehicle involves a cost but it's all worth it for safety and keeping it running longer. I'll definitely keep you posted on what turns up after the check. Praying it's just the servomotor. Thanks for all the advice. Cheers and safe driving to you as well!

Hey there, Ran into a similar hitch with my 2006 Volvo V70 a while back. I'd classify myself as an enthusiast with low-level mechanical know-how. Got puzzled by my beams acting up just like yours, and with that pesky warning light too. Took my car to a local workshop, they've got a decent rep for sorting out headlight issues. After a bit of poking around, they figured it was a defective servomotor in the headlight. The whole repair job cost me around 1040 Euro, pricey but it definitely sorted the issue. Perhaps you could check on that? Just to make sure, could I also get a bit more info about your car? Mileage, any other recent repairs or symptoms? It'll help me give a bit more detailed advice. Hope this helps!
