Seeking Advice on Troubleshooting Heater, A/C, and Mirror Defrost Problems in 2013 Kia Optima

Mirror doesn't defrost

Insufficient Cooling/Heating

Hey guys, I'm having some funky issues with my 2013 Kia Optima. The heater and A/C aren't quite right and the mirror defrost feature isn't doing its job. I've got a hunch it might have something to do with a faulty defogging sensor, but wouldn't mind a second opinion or some pointers. Anyone here had similar problems with their Optima and got it fixed? What was your experience like at the workshop? All advice appreciated!

Hey there! I'm no mechanic, but I've got a 2011 Kia Forte which had similar issues. Turns out it was a bad cable connection that messed with my defrost functions. Took it to my local workshop and had it sorted out for around 155 Euro. Now, just to help you further, could you tell me if you've had similar problems before or if it started all of a sudden? And when was the last time you had your wiring and connections checked? Those details could be vital for a more accurate diagnosis!

Hey, thanks for the reply! I've never actually had any problems quite like this before, so it's a bit of a first for me. Though your point about the cable connection sounds plausible, I'll have to check on that. To answer your other question, I last had my wiring and connections checked when my Optima rolled over 80,000 km on the odometer. I've clocked in at around 89,347 km now, and admittedly, it's been a while since my last service. Do you think I should get it to a mechanic soon, or can it wait a bit longer? I'm in no rush, but I'd rather be safe than sorry. Appreciate the help!

Hey, no problem at all, happy to help! Considering the mileage you've put on since your last check, I'd just play it safe and get it to a mechanic sooner rather than later. These kind of issues can spiral into bigger ones if you leave them unattended for too long, especially on an older model. Plus, with your heating and cooling playing up alongside the defrost, it actually sounds like it could be something more than a simple cabling issue. Could be a faulty HVAC system or something with your actuator doors - all things that a professional would be able to diagnose pretty quickly. But hey, don't sweat it too much! These things are all part and parcel of owning a car, right? My Forte gave me a handful of problems in the early days but once I got them sorted, it was smooth sailing. So cheer up! Your Optima's going to be back in shipshape in no time.

Ah, you're right! Better safe than stranded. Thanks for all the info, it has really given me a better idea of what to do next. I'll take your advice and get my Optima to a mechanic ASAP. And you're absolutely spot on about car ownership, ups and downs all part of the game, huh? Thank you again for the reassuring words about your Forte, it's eased my worries a bit. Looking forward to seeing my Kia back in good form. You've been a great help, cheers!
