Seeking Advice on Troubleshooting Heating/Cooling Issues in 2010 Volvo C70 Diesel

Hey folks, I've got a bit of an odd issue with my 2010 Volvo C70 Diesel I wanted to run by you. I've noticed that the heating/cooling isn't working as it should, and I'm suspecting it might be down to a problem with the electric auxiliary heater or the cli control. Has anyone encountered a similar situation, and if so, can you shed any light on what may be causing it, and how was it resolved at your end? Share any tips you've got for troubleshooting this - it'll be a great help! Cheers.

Summary of the thread

A 2010 Volvo C70 Diesel is experiencing heating and cooling issues, suspected to be related to the electric auxiliary heater or climate control. The problem might be similar to a known issue in a Ford model, where the auxiliary heater was the culprit. It is suggested to have the auxiliary heater checked by a mechanic, as resolving this could prevent future complications and maintain the vehicle's value.

Hey there, More of a Ford guy myself, so can't promise much, but when my 2008 Ford Focus had an issue pretty much identical to yours, turned out to be indeed the electric auxiliary heater. Not exactly an auto guru, got some experience here and there, you know how it goes. Enlisted help from my local mechanic - a proper wizard when it comes to these things. Charged me €350 to fix it. Bit hefty, but it did the trick. Question though - your Volvo C70, is it a 2.0D or D5? And have you noticed any additional issues with it when the heater's playing up? Odd noises, warning lights, stuff like that. Might help narrow it down a bit more. Cheers!

Hey, thanks for chiming in! Yeah, it's a 2.0D, and aside from the heating issue, didn't notice anything out of the ordinary really. No weird noises or warning lights popping up. Been taking care of her well, got a recent servicing when the mileage hit 31,285KM. I'll ask around to see if anyone here can have a look at the auxiliary heater like you suggested. Appreciate the help! Cheers.

Hey, Glad to see you haven’t spotted any other strange issues, then, that’s a good start! From my own experience, the auxiliary heater can be a common culprit when it comes to heating problems, especially considering that your Volvo C70 model is pretty much the same age as my old Ford. If you've been diligent about keeping up with the servicing and taking care of it, the overall system should be in decent enough shape, so I'd definitely say it's worth having the auxiliary heater checked out first. At €350,00 for a fix, it might seem a bit pricey, but remember, if that’s your issue, getting it sorted in the first place would save you a head full of worries down the line. Plus, should you ever decide to sell, having a properly functioning heating system definitely adds to the appeal. Take care of her, she still got a lot of miles in her! Cheers.

Hey, thanks for the advice again! Spot on, keeping her in good shape is a priority, and if getting the aux heater checked and fixed is what it takes, then so be it. Don't plan to part from her anytime soon though, so the resale value is a bit down the line, but it's good to know it counts! I’ll get it looked into at the local auto shop this week. It had better be the aux heater after all this, right? Or at least something I can get sorted without breaking a sweat - or the wallet! Appreciate all the help, cheers!
