Seeking Advice on Troubleshooting Non-Functional Steering Wheel Buttons in 2023 Renault Arkana

Buttons on multifunction steering wheel without function

Hey folks, I've been facing a weird issue with my 2023 Renault Arkana with a gasoline engine. The buttons on the multi-function steering wheel have just given up, they're all dead. I'm guessing there's some sort of error with the wheel itself but wanted to get some advice before I dive into it. Anyone ever dealt with something like this before? Would love to hear about how you got it sorted out in the workshop and any tips on troubleshooting this sort of problem would be gold. Thanks in advance!

Hey there! I had the same issue with my 2021 Renault Koleos, so we're in the same boat. I'm not a big car guru, just have some experience here and there. In my case, the problem was the cables in the steering wheel - they were defective. I lugged my car to a local workshop and the guys there sorted it out quick, cost me a flat 95 euro. Nothing too major, thankfully! Before I dive into more details, mind telling me if your Arkana has any other accessories installed in the steering wheel? That could change the situation a bit. Also, how long have you had this problem? How often does it happen? Cheers! Hope we get your ride sorted out soon!

Hey, thanks for the quick response! My Arkana doesn't have any other accessories installed in the steering wheel, so luckily that won't complicate stuff. The issue popped up about a week ago and it's been pretty consistent since then, no funky on and off stuff. I clocked in about 183228 km on this beauty since my last service, so she's seen some use. After your suggestion, I think I'm gonna get her checked out at a local shop, and see if they can spot any cable issues or anything. Appreciate the help!

No problem! Good knowing there are no additional accessories, so we can rule out compatibility issues. Considering it's been happening consistently, it's likely not a simple fuse blow-out. However, it's not impossible that a fuse might be the cause, so just have a quick glance before you head to the shop. Your beast has a fair amount of kilometres on her, so there could be some natural wear and tear. It sounds like you're onto something with checking out the cables. If I remember correctly, my workshop guys mentioned something about clocksprings—they're that 'spool-like' thing that makes electrical connection to the steering wheel possible. They might be the cause of your issue. But overall, don't worry, it doesn't sound like an earth-shattering problem and thankfully, the wheel controls are not overly pricey to fix. Best thing to do is get those wires and possibly the clockspring checked at a trusted garage. The key is getting a precise diagnosis early on, saves you time and money in the dark! Good luck! Let me know how it goes! Cheers!

Hey, you're a lifesaver! I did take a look at the fuses, just like you suggested, but they all seemed fine. So it does seem like it's either the cables or the clockspring that's gone wonky. You're right, nailing the diagnosis early on is the key so I'm gonna get my Arkana to the workshop ASAP. I'm relieved it's not a big problem and won't cost an arm and a leg! You definitely saved me from a ton of worrying and googling, haha! I'll keep you posted on how things shake out at the garage. Until then, appreciate your help and cheers to you!
