Seeking Advice on Troubleshooting Transmission Issues in 2020 Mazda Carol

Warning light in the speedometer of the vehicle

Grinding noise when shifting gears

Transmission slips/shifts erratically

Hey fellow car enthusiasts, I need some help troubleshooting my 2020 Mazda Carol with a Gasoline engine. I've started experiencing a couple of odd symptoms - my transmission's been slipping and shifting weirdly, there's this grinding noise when I switch gears, and a warning light has come on in my speedometer. I'm suspecting an issue with the transmission oil temperature sensor. Has anyone dealt with similar issues before? Could you share your experience about what you found was the issue and how you got it fixed at the workshop? Any tip or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Hey! I got a 2018 Mazda Demio, so pretty similar to your motor. By no means am I an expert, just a bloke with some car experience. I had an issue quite like this on mine. I noticed some dodgy shifting and thought it might be the sensor too. Ended up taking it to my local garage—those guys know their stuff. They had a look and told me my transmission oil level was too low. To fix it, they just topped off the oil. It cost me about 365€, a bit pricey but at least it solved the problem. Sounds like your symptoms might be similar but just to be sure, could you tell me more about your car? Like how many miles you've got on it, when was the last time you did some maintenance? Could help narrow things down a bit.

Hey, thanks for your input! It's refreshing to hear from someone who has faced a similar issue, I feel a bit less alone, haha. My Mazda Carol is a high-mileage model, believe it or not, it currently has 272942KM on the clock. Yes, you read it correct, she's a true road warrior! As for the latest service, I've maintained regular services, but can't recall off the top of my head when the most recent one was. I'll have to dig up the maintenance book. The solution you've mentioned sounds doable. I'll definitely consider getting the oil levels checked. Cheers for that!

No worries! Glad to shed some light on the matter - us high-mileage warriors need to stick together, eh? Your issue surely sounds like it could be tied to that transmission oil. If you've been regularly servicing your car and you're still dealing with this, then maybe the oil's just run a bit low. Or, considering the miles, there could be some wear and tear causing that issue too – things get a wee bit more temperamental with age, don’t they! My advice would be to take your Carol to a local mechanic or the dealership, tell them about the issues you've been experiencing, including your speculation about the oil temperature sensor. They could do a diagnostics check to see if things are alright internally. Remember, getting an expert opinion never hurts! It's always better to be safe than sorry. And keep your maintenance book on hand - it's a goldmine of information when diagnosing problems. Hang in there. Hope your prized Carol is back roaring down the roads in no time. Cheers!

Thanks your advice strikes a chord. It's funny, you spend so much time with your car, it almost feels like an old ; distressing when something isn't working right! Probably the best bet is to take it down to my local garage and get everything checked out smoothly. Can't afford to have the old girl acting out on me on the roads, right? And yes, that maintenance book is a true treasure, might just get it dusted off and hopefully that'll give some clues as well. Really appreciate your help on this. Keep that Demio running strong too, we high-milers have to show these brand-new kids how it's done! Cheers!
