Hiya, Wow, you guys have quite the predicament! I just had my cousin go through a similar thing, though his S80 is a 2013 model. Honestly, it sounds like getting that DPF filter replaced was the right call. I'm thinking about taking precautions with my own Volvo now. But I gotta ask, how much did that whole repair set you back, if you don't mind sharing? Did anything else pop up since then, or has it been plain sailing for your Volvo ever since? Catch ya later!

Hey there, For sure, this Volvo predicament sure was something! But yes indeed, sorting out that DPF filter proved to be the right move. Since having the filter and sensor replaced, my Volvo's been purring like a kitten. No more black smoke, and no issues with the engine or fuel consumption either. Now on to the all-important question, the whole DPF repair did run up quite a tally, to be honest. It set me back by 1325€. Yep, you read that right. Might seem steep, but the improvement in performance made it completely worth it in my opinion. And so far, touch wood, that was the only major concern I've had since visiting the mechanic. Everything's been running smoothly since. Always good to catch potential problems before they turn into real headaches, right? So definitely might be a good idea to have your own Volvo checked out. Catch you later!

Hey everyone, I'm mighty relieved to hear your experiences, and I really appreciate your advice. It does sound like we've got the same issue. Finding a reliable mechanic who knows Volvos is my top priority now. I guess it's gonna be pricey, but at 1325€ it sounds reasonable to get the old gal back in prime shape. Took a big sigh of relief hearing how well your Volvo's running since. Definitely with ya on preventing bigger problems down the line, so I'll get my Volvo checked out asap. Can't wait to have her running smoothly again, without all that black smoke and shaky engine. Here's to many more years of safe driving. Thanks a ton! Cheers!

Hey, It looks like we're pretty much in the same boat. I've got a 2014 Volvo XC90 diesel, and had a similar situation not too long ago. The ol' DPF was heavily loaded and was causing a right mess. I was getting the same black smoke when I revved up, shaky engine, the whole thing. Even my fuel consumption was higher than a kite. It turned out that failed DPF regeneration was the culprit, just like yours seems to be. And you're spot on, there was an issue with the exhaust gas back pressure sensor in the DPF, same as you're suspecting. From my experience, it does sound a bit dire but it's not the end of the world. The garage had to replace the DPF filter and the exhaust gas back pressure sensor, plus they did a full service to clean up the rest of it. That sorted out my problem and it's been smooth sailing since then. So my advice would be to take your car into a reliable mechanic. Get the DPF filter and sensor replaced if necessary and also get your system fully serviced. Just sit tight, cause once they've done their thing, your ol' S80 will be good as new. Hope it all goes well for ya. Safe driving! Cheers!
