Seeking advice: Loss of power and rough running in 2019 Toyota Etios petrol engine

Hey guys, I'm currently having a few problems with my 2019 petrol Toyota Etios with around 225,000 km on the clock. The engine light is on, the engine is running rough and has lost power. There's also a lot of tugging when accelerating and a loud hissing noise. The car also shakes a bit when idling. According to my research, it could be the intake system, there must be a leak somewhere. I had some bad experiences at the last garage visit, so I would like to know if any of you have had similar problems and experiences with your mechanic. Any info would be super helpful. Thanks a lot!

Summary of the thread

A 2019 Toyota Etios with 225,000 km is experiencing engine issues, including a loss of power, rough running, and a hissing noise, potentially due to an intake system leak. A similar case with a Toyota Corolla involved a leaking intake hose, which was resolved by replacing the hose, restoring the car's performance. The suggested solution is to inspect and possibly replace the intake hose to address the problem.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hey, I have a 2016 Toyota Corolla, and had symptoms like this too. The same error message, hissing, loss of power, everything. The diagnosis was a leaking intake hose. Seemed like it was a serious problem because the engine can't breathe properly and that can be bad for a lot of other components. In my case, they had to replace the whole intake hose to fix the problem. That was it, and after that my Corolla ran like brand new again. So, in my experience, yes, you might be right in your guess. Hope you get everything fixed!

Hi, thanks for your reply! That actually sounds almost exactly like my Etios. I'm relieved that you seem to have found a simple solution. Do you perhaps remember how expensive the repair for the intake hose was in the workshop? And have there been any other complications with your Toyota since the repair? I'd like to be as prepared as possible before I speak to my garage again.

Hello, don't worry, I still remember it well. It cost €100 to repair the intake hose on my Toyota Corolla. Since the mechanic sealed the hole in the intake system, I haven't noticed any further problems with my car. Everything has been running great again since then. I hope everything goes just as smoothly for you!

Thank you very much for the information! That really gives me some relief. 100€ is not as bad as I had feared. As long as I can solve the same problem and get my Etios running normally again, it will definitely be worth the money. Thank you so much for your help and encouragement. That was really helpful!
