Seeking Solutions for a 2015 Volvo V70 Diesel: Check Engine Light, Power Loss, Rough Idle, and Suspected EGR Valve Issues
(Translated from German)
Summary of the thread
A 2015 Volvo V70 Diesel is experiencing a check engine light, power loss, rough idle, and a strong exhaust smell, with suspicions pointing towards an EGR valve issue. Similar symptoms were resolved in a 2013 Volvo S60 Diesel by replacing the faulty EGR valve. The suggested solution is to have the vehicle checked by a mechanic to confirm the diagnosis and potentially replace the EGR valve, which previously resolved similar issues effectively.

Hey there! Thanks for your input. Really appreciates it. Well, regarding the additional details, she’s clocked about 40,718 KM on the odometer. Had her last service not too long ago. No major past issues or any worn-out parts replaced recently. But now this tricky EGR problem seems to have cropped up. Thanks for sharing your experience, looks like I'd be making a trip to my local mechanic soon. Let's hope it's nothing too troublesome or expensive! Cheers!

Hey, You're welcome! Your V70 seems to have relatively low mileage for its age, so I reckon it's been pretty well cared for. Being in a similar boat as yours, my S60 was around 50,000 KM when the EGR valve gave up on me. Curiously, no significant past issues until then, much like yours. My local mechanic suspected the EGR valve due to the symptoms I described and the diagnostic check just confirmed his suspicions. After replacing it, all those troubles were gone – the check engine light, power loss, everything. The ride became as smooth as ever again. So, judging from your description and based on my personal experience, I'd say your suspicion could be spot-on. Of course, you'll need to get it checked out by a mechanic to be 100% certain. Here's hoping your fix will be as simple and not too hard on the wallet as mine was. Take care and fingers crossed for a quick and easy resolution! Cheers!

Hey, Thanks a ton for your quick response and sharing your personal experience! Yes, I've taken good care of her, and it's indeed a surprise that this EGR valve issue has taken up so suddenly with such low mileage. But your experience has actually made me more hopeful that it could be the same case with my V70 as well. Definitely going to have it checked with my mechanic. I’m hoping for the best, fingers crossed it's just the EGR valve and nothing too heavy on the pocket. Will let you know how it goes. Cheers! And happy motoring to you too!

Hey, I'm certainly not an expert by any means but have had some experience with cars, particularly with a similar problem on my 2013 Volvo S60 Diesel (almost like a sibling to your V70). What you're describing sounds very familiar indeed. My old girl was acting up the same way and yes, it did turn out to be a problem with the EGR valve. Despite my lack of significant expertise, I got the issue sorted at my local workshop. They replaced the faulty EGR valve and it cost me around 355 Euro. The symptoms you describe strongly suggest it could be the same issue you're facing. However, having a few additional details like the car's mileage, service history, any previous issues or worn out parts would help me assist you better. Take it easy and happy motoring!
