Seeking Solutions for ABS Warning Light and Brake Light Issues in 2009 Nissan Crew with Gasoline Engine
(Translated from German)
Summary of the thread
A 2009 Nissan Crew owner is experiencing issues with the ABS warning light and a malfunctioning brake light. The initial suspicion is a faulty brake light switch, which could affect both the brake light and ABS system. A suggestion is made to replace the brake light switch, as it might resolve the issue by ensuring proper signaling to the ABS system. The owner plans to attempt a DIY replacement, considering it a cost-effective potential solution.

Hey, thanks for the quick response! Appreciate you sharing your fix, quite an interesting one I must say. But, I've not plugged anything into the lighter or outlet recently, so I reckon that might not be the cause in my case. My crew has clocked 50523 KM till date and run pretty smooth, just this brake light nag that came out of nowhere. I'll keep digging around, surely there's a reasoning for this, if you or anyone else got other possible causes, just shoot 'em here. Cheers!

Hey, no problem at all! Sorry it wasn't as easy as plugging out some device. In that case, the brake light switch might be the problem after all. I got curious about your issue since it's quite similar to what I experienced, but of course, no two car issues and causes are the same, right? So, I did a little dig about your situation on my X-Trail and other Nissans. I found that a faulty brake light switch can indeed cause both the ABS warning light to come on and the brake light not to work. The ABS system uses signals from the brake light switch and if it doesn't get the right signals due to a fault, it could give you the problems you are experiencing based on what I've read. My advice would be to try replacing your brake light switch because hey, you initially suspected it could be that. You can usually find the switch near the brake pedal. If you're comfortable with some DIY, it shouldn't be too hard to replace, otherwise, take it down to your nearest garage. It shouldn't cost much and hopefully, it clears up your issues just like unplugging my charger did for me. Fingers crossed for you! Do keep us posted on your progress. Cheers!

Thanks for going the extra mile! Now that you mention, it makes total sense. I thought the switch has to do primarily with only the brake light, didn't know it signals the ABS as well. I'm decent with the spanners, so I'll give it a shot this weekend. Fingers crossed it's actually the darn brake light switch. Anyway, it won't burn a hole in my pocket, so worth the try. You've been a huge help, appreciate it a lot! Will keep ya posted. Till then, happy driving! Cheers!

Hey, I had a similar issue on my 2007 Nissan X-Trail, not far off your Crew. My car knowledge level is probably in the "some experience" range. When I had the ABS light on, it turned out to be my error. Essentially, I was plugging an aftermarket charger into the cigarette lighter and it messed with the electrical system. Removed it, and bingo, all was well in the world again, didn't cost a dime! Just to be sure, have you tried plugging anything into your lighter or outlet recently? Might be worth double-checking.
