Seeking Solutions for Multiple Engine Issues in 2013 Volvo XC70
(Translated from German)
Summary of the thread
A 2013 Volvo XC70 is experiencing multiple engine issues, including black smoke on acceleration, a persistent check engine light, difficulty starting when cold, reduced power, shakiness at idle, jerking on acceleration, and occasional stalling. These symptoms suggest a potential problem with the fuel mixture preparation, possibly due to a faulty fuel pressure regulator. A similar issue was resolved in another Volvo model by replacing the defective fuel pressure regulator, which significantly improved performance. It is recommended to consult a mechanic with these symptoms for a proper diagnosis and potential replacement of the fuel pressure regulator.

Hey, thanks for the advice! It's great to know that someone else had a similar issue and managed to get it sorted out relatively easily. My Volvo X70's current mileage is around 77,513 KM. It's been regularly serviced, the latest being just a month ago. I'll definitely look into the fuel pressure regulator and see if that's the issue. I appreciate your help!

Hey again, No problem at all, happy to help! With the mileage and maintenance history you've given, it seems quite plausible that it's the fuel pressure regulator. Regular service is great, but sometimes certain parts just wear out or become faulty, that's just cars for you! Make sure you tell your mechanic all these symptoms when you visit them, as it can significantly help in the diagnosis. If it indeed turns out to be the fuel pressure regulator in your XC70 just like it was in my trusty S60, you should notice a huge improvement in the performance post-replacement. And don't worry too much about the cost- yes 250 Euro was a bit steep, but in the grand scheme of things, it was totally worth it for the peace of mind and the smoother drive. All the best, and do keep us posted on how things turn out!

You're a lifesaver! It's comforting to know that I'm not alone in this. And you're right, cars do have their ups and downs, don't they? I'll definitely pass along all these symptoms to my mechanic and get that fuel pressure regulator checked out. Let's hope it's just that and nothing more serious. If it's around the same cost as yours, I'd say it's worth it for a peace of mind and smoother driving experience. Will certainly keep you guys updated. Appreciate all your advice and help, cheers!

Hi there, I had a very similar issue with my 2011 Volvo S60 a while back. Just to set the stage, I'd describe my car knowledge to be at a low to some experience. When I had this issue, I took my car to my local workshop—those guys are always great at spotting the issue. Turns out the fuel pressure regulator was indeed defective, just like you suspected might be the issue with your Volvo XC70. They diagnosed the issue and replaced it right there. It set me back around 250 Euro, quite a sum but absolutely worth it considering the significant improvement in my car performance. But of course, every car's mileage may vary, so it would be really helpful if you could share more details about your vehicle like the current mileage and maintenance history. That way, I (and others here) might be able to offer more pinpointed advice. Hope this helps!
