Seicento control unit communication error

I am experiencing a control unit communication error with my 2008 Fiat Seicento, gasoline engine, mileage 104525 km. Symptoms include engine overheating, check engine light activation, and coolant spill under the vehicle due to excessive cooling system pressure. I suspect a defective cable or plug connection. Has anyone encountered similar issues?

I had a similar issue with my Seicento. The symptoms you describe sound very familiar. It turned out to be a connectivity issue with one of the control modules, likely a CAN bus error. I would suggest checking all your wiring harnesses and connections, especially around the engine bay. Did the diagnostic trouble code point to a specific module?

Thank you for your response. The diagnostic trouble code indicates a general communication error, rather than a specific module failure. Which connection or wiring harness gave you the most trouble?

In my case, the fault was related to a corroded connector near the engine control unit. However, since your diagnostic code is quite general, it might be difficult to pinpoint the exact location. Given the overheating and pressure issues, I would strongly suggest taking your car to a qualified workshop. They will be able to perform a more thorough diagnostic assessment. This is how the mechanic resolved it on my car.

I appreciate your advice. I took the car to a workshop as you suggested. It was indeed a defective plug connection, as initially suspected. The repair cost was 95€. Thank you!
