Charcoal filter? Is that difficult to get to? And how would I check it?

It's not easily accessible, buried near the fuel tank. And you'd need diagnostic tools to properly test air flow and pressure. You can try, but I'd advise taking it to a workshop.

Thanks for the advice. It was indeed the charcoal filter, as you suspected. Replaced it for 275€. The stalling and check engine light are gone.

I also drive a Sequoia. Sounds like your EVAP system is leaking, so your car is 'drinking' too much unmetered air. This will cause the engine to stall. Maybe it's a defective activated charcoal filter?
