Sequoia hybrid fuel pump issue

My 2023 Toyota Sequoia hybrid with 66241 km is hard to start and sometimes stalls when idling. The check engine light is on, and I've noticed rough engine running and higher fuel consumption. The error memory shows a fuel pump defect. Could it be a cable or plug connection issue?

I had a similar problem with my 2018 Audi A4. The symptoms you describe were almost identical – hard starts, stalling, check engine light, and rough running. In my case, the issue turned out to be a faulty fuel pump relay. Have you checked the relay and its connections? A defective relay can cause the same problems as a bad pump.

Thanks for the tip! Where is the fuel pump relay located on the Sequoia, and how difficult is it to check? Do I need any special tools or knowledge?

The fuel pump relay location can vary, but it's usually in the fuse box, often under the hood. The owner’s manual should have a diagram. Visually inspect it for corrosion or damage. Swapping it with an identical relay can help diagnose the problem. However, given the error code points to the fuel pump itself, a visit to a workshop might be the best course of action to confirm whether it is just a connection problem as you initially suspected and avoid unnecessary repairs.

Thanks for the advice. I took it to the workshop, and it was indeed a defective plug connection to the fuel pump, just as I suspected. The repair cost me 95€.
