Sequoia rough engine and stalling
Summary of the thread
A 2012 Toyota Sequoia with a gasoline engine is experiencing rough running, stalling at idle, and a check engine light, with jerking during acceleration. These symptoms suggest a potential ignition system issue, possibly a coil failure. It is recommended to inspect the spark plugs, ignition coils, and wiring for any damage. Ultimately, a defective ignition coil was identified and repaired, resolving the problem.

Thank you for your quick reply. I'm not very experienced with vehicle diagnostics; are there specific things I should look for regarding the cable or plug connections? What does 'coil pack' mean, exactly?

Look for any obvious signs of damage to the wiring leading to the ignition coils. A coil pack is simply multiple ignition coils combined into one unit. Since your symptoms seem aligned with ignition issues, it is always preferable to visit the workshop and get the car diagnosed.

Understood. Thanks for the advice; I took it to the shop, and it turned out to be a defective ignition coil, just as you suspected. The repair cost 95€. I appreciate your help!

I had similar symptoms with my Sequoia; I suspect the cable or plug connection of the component is defective, much like a loose wire causing a light bulb to flicker. Have you checked the spark plugs or the ignition system in general? Coil packs can be a common issue.
