Sequoia Start Stop Problem

I'm hoping someone can assist me with a perplexing issue I'm experiencing with my 2000 Toyota Sequoia, which has a gasoline engine. It's got just under 95,000 km on the clock. The problem is that the start-stop system is simply not functioning as it should. I'm getting an error stored, and the engine sometimes shuts off unexpectedly, accompanied by a distracting warning light. Could this be due to a heavily discharged or defective car battery? I am really at my wit's end here!

Summary of the thread

A 2000 Toyota Sequoia is experiencing issues with its start-stop system, leading to unexpected engine shutdowns and warning lights. The problem may be linked to a heavily discharged or defective car battery. A similar issue was resolved by checking and replacing the battery, suggesting that a battery check at a workshop could be a viable solution.

Hey there! I feel your pain. I had a similar issue with my older Skoda Octavia. The idle stop would just randomly decide not to work, and sometimes it would stall completely. I was also getting some weird electrical errors popping up. Have you checked the battery voltage? That was the culprit for me. How old is your car battery?

Thanks for the quick response! I have not checked the voltage myself, as I don't have the proper equipment, and to be honest, I wouldn't even know where to begin! But that is something I can ask someone to do. Could you tell me if your symptoms were exactly like mine?

Yep, pretty much the same! Random stalling, the auto restart not working, and a warning light that drove me crazy! For me, it turned out to be a bad battery. I would recommend taking it to a workshop. I had to pay 250€ for them to sort it out, and it was worth every penny!

Thank you so much for sharing your experience; it's incredibly helpful! I will definitely take your advice and bring it to a workshop for a proper diagnosis and battery check. Now that you mention it, the repair cost you paid seems reasonable. I really appreciate you taking the time to help me out!
