Serena Battery Draining Issue

Hi, I'm having a strange issue with my 2004 Nissan Serena diesel. The battery keeps draining, even after charging it. I'm getting an error message in the speedometer, the lights are weak and flicker sometimes, and the error memory stores a fault related to low voltage. Starting the engine is difficult due to the weak battery. Could this be a faulty alternator or something else?

Summary of the thread

The 2004 Nissan Serena is experiencing a battery draining issue, with symptoms including error messages, weak and flickering lights, and difficulty starting the engine. The problem could be due to a faulty alternator or a defective battery sensor. After consulting with others who had similar issues, it was suggested to check the battery sensor. Hey, I had similar problems with my Serena. Is the battery new or older? Also, did you check the battery sensor? I had all those symptoms - error lights, flickering, the works - and it turned out to be a defective battery sensor causing the charging issue. How old is your battery?

Thanks for the quick reply! The battery is only about a year old, so I wouldn't expect it to be failing already. Where is the battery sensor located, and is it something I can easily test myself?

Okay, a year old battery should be fine. Honestly, I'm not sure exactly where the sensor is located, or how to test it yourself. I just took mine to a workshop, they diagnosed it pretty quickly. It may be worth a visit to a pro if you are unsure.

Thanks again! I appreciate the suggestion. I took it to a workshop, and you were spot-on - it was indeed the battery sensor! They replaced it, and everything seems to be working fine now. Repair ended up costing 315€.
