Sienna bypass valve malfunction
Summary of the thread
A 2023 Toyota Sienna hybrid was experiencing a bypass valve malfunction error and engine overheating. The initial suspicion was a consequential error, with potential causes including leaks in the vacuum system, air intake, or coolant. After investigation, it was determined that a faulty sensor was causing the issue, which was resolved by resetting the system at a workshop, eliminating the error without any repair costs.

Thanks for the tip! I'll check the vacuum system and air intake for leaks. But if it were a coolant leak, wouldn't I see some visible signs or a drop in the coolant level? Anything else I should look into before tearing everything apart?

Yeah, you'd think so about the coolant. But in my case, it was a very slow leak, hard to spot. Check around the exhaust system too, just in case something's dripping there. Honestly, with those symptoms, might be worth getting it checked by a workshop if you're not 100% sure.

Appreciate the advice! Turns out it was indeed a faulty sensor causing a chain reaction. The workshop reset everything and the error is gone. No repair cost, it was just a glitch!

Hey, I have a Toyota Sienna too, not sure about the year, but I had similar overheating issues and an error code related to the bypass valve. Did you check your vacuum system and air intake for any leaks? It could also be a coolant leak messing things up.
