Sienna electronic parking brake issue

Hi, I'm having trouble with the electronic parking brake on my 2020 Toyota Sienna Hybrid. It's got around 194492 km on it. The handbrake isn't working, and the error memory has stored a fault. Plus, there's a warning light on the speedometer. I suspect it might be the electric motor in the brake calliper. Has anyone else experienced something similar?

I had a similar issue on my 2018 Volvo XC60. The symptoms you describe point towards a potential brake sensor malfunction or even a system glitch. Have you checked the brake sensor readings? A faulty sensor could trigger the EPB failure.

Thanks for the quick response! I haven't checked the brake sensor readings myself. Where exactly is the sensor located, and is it something I could potentially troubleshoot without specialized tools?

The sensor's location varies, but it's generally integrated into the brake calliper assembly. Given the potential impact on vehicle safety with a faulty EPB, and the error codes stored, I'd strongly recommend taking it to a qualified workshop for diagnostics. The error memory should give a precise indication of the brake fault.

Okay, I appreciate the advice. I took it to the workshop, and it turned out to be a defective electric motor in the brake calliper, just as I suspected. The repair cost came to 505€ Thanks again for your help!
