Sienna tire pressure warning light

I've got a 2020 Toyota Sienna hybrid with about 91,881 km on it. Recently, the tire pressure warning light has been going crazy! The speedometer keeps flashing a 'tire pressure too low' error, even though I've checked the pressure manually with my own pressure gauge and the tires are properly inflated. Took it for a scan and yup, error code stored in the memory. Could this be a faulty sensor? It's driving me nuts!

Summary of the thread

The tire pressure warning light on a 2020 Toyota Sienna hybrid was persistently indicating low tire pressure despite manual checks confirming proper inflation. This issue was likely due to a faulty Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) sensor, possibly caused by a dead sensor battery. The recommended solution was to consult a workshop for diagnosis and replacement of the faulty sensor, which resolved the problem.

It certainly sounds like a TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System) issue. Since you've confirmed the tire pressures are correct manually, a failing sensor is the most probable cause. How old are the sensors? Has the battery of the sensor been replaced?

That's what I was afraid of! I'm not sure how old the sensors actually are. I bought the Sienna used with 50,000km on it. Is there any way to check the sensor battery without taking the tire off, or am I stuck going to a shop?

Unfortunately, there's no reliable way to test the sensor battery externally. Given the symptoms and mileage, it's highly likely that one or more sensor batteries are nearing the end of their life. I would recommend consulting a workshop. They can diagnose the issue and replace the faulty sensor.

Okay, thanks for the advice! I took it to the shop, and you were spot on – it was a dead sensor battery. Replaced the faulty sensor, and the error is gone. Cost me around 280€, but at least the annoying light is gone! Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction.
