Silverado diesel boost issue

I'm having some issues with my 2018 Chevrolet Silverado diesel. It's got about 43718 km on it. The check engine light is on, and I'm experiencing reduced engine power and poor engine response. Sometimes it even stalls at idle. I've also noticed higher fuel consumption, a whistling noise, and a loud hissing sound when accelerating. I suspect it might be a bad boost pressure system. Anyone else had similar problems? I checked the pressure sensor and MAP sensor, but they seem ok.

Summary of the thread

A 2018 Chevrolet Silverado diesel is experiencing reduced engine power, poor response, stalling, increased fuel consumption, and unusual noises, with a suspected boost pressure system issue. The problem is identified as a faulty wastegate valve, which is not regulating boost pressure correctly. The recommended solution is to have the vehicle diagnosed by a professional to confirm the issue and avoid unnecessary expenses. The issue was resolved by replacing the defective wastegate valve, restoring the vehicle's performance.

Sounds familiar! I had a similar issue with my Silverado (don't remember the year, but it was the same generation). That whistling and hissing, plus the power loss, screams boost leak to me. Did you check the wastegate at all? That's where my problem was. Man, it was a pain. Felt like I was driving a tractor!

Thanks for the quick response! I haven't specifically checked the wastegate valve. What exactly was the issue with yours? Was it stuck open or closed, or something else? Any tips on how to diagnose it properly?

Yep, mine was the wastegate valve itself. It was faulty and not regulating the boost pressure correctly. Honestly, diagnosing it properly without the right tools is tricky. The hissing under acceleration is a big clue, though. I'd advise taking it to a reputable shop; they can hook it up to a diagnostic tool and pinpoint the problem quickly. Otherwise you end up chasing your tail and spending way more time and money on random parts. Good luck!

Thanks a lot for the advice! I took it to a workshop, and you were right, it was indeed a defect in the wastegate valve. Cost me around 860€ to get it fixed, but at least it's running smoothly now. Appreciate the help!
