Silverado Diesel Fuel Sensor Fault
Summary of the thread
A 2012 Chevrolet Silverado diesel is experiencing intermittent check engine light activation and occasional engine stalling at idle, with a stored error code indicating a fuel level sensor fault. The problem could be due to a faulty fuel level sensor, especially given the vehicle's age and mileage. While a faulty fuel pump relay could cause stalling, the error code suggests the sensor as the primary issue. Checking the wiring harness for loose or corroded connections is recommended, and visiting a workshop for diagnosis and potential sensor replacement is advised.

I have not noticed a direct correlation between the indicated fuel level and the stalling. The gauge seems to read normally, even when the engine stalls. I have not yet checked the wiring harness. Could a faulty fuel pump relay also cause these symptoms?

While a faulty fuel pump relay could indeed cause stalling, the stored error code specifically points to the fuel level sensor. Considering you've already checked the error codes and the gauge reads normally, it's less likely to be the relay. Given the age and mileage, a failing fuel level sensor is the most probable culprit. I would advise a visit to a reputable workshop to confirm the diagnosis. It cost me around 52€ to get it repaired.

I appreciate your insights. Based on your experience and advice, I will schedule an appointment with a workshop to have the fuel level sensor diagnosed and replaced. Thank you for your assistance!

I had a similar issue with my Silverado. The fuel gauge was all over the place, and the check engine light was a constant companion. Do you notice any correlation between the fuel level displayed on the car dashboard and the engine stalling? Also, have you tried checking the wiring harness connected to the fuel level sensor? Sometimes, a loose or corroded connection can cause erratic readings.
