Skoda Citigo engine error

My Skoda Citigo from with a gasoline engine is giving me grief. The engine light is on, and I'm getting a 'Crankshaft to Camshaft Reference Value' error. Symptoms include reduced engine power, poor response, and higher fuel consumption. I suspect a defective crankshaft sensor. Has anyone else encountered this?

I had a similar issue with my Citigo some time ago. The engine light kept appearing, and the car felt sluggish. Did you check the cam sensor? It might be related to the reference value problem you're describing. Does it happen more when the engine is cold or hot?

The cam sensor sounds plausible. When your engine light came on, did you also experience misfire codes or any timing belt issues?

Yes, exactly the same symptoms. I didn't get timing belt issues, but the misfire codes were definitely there. I spent ages trying to figure it out myself, but in the end, I took it to a workshop. They diagnosed it as a faulty sensor pretty quickly.

Crankshaft sensor was the problem. I replaced it, and the engine light is off. The car runs smoothly now. The repair cost 340€.
