Skoda Citigo engine idle issue

I am writing to describe an issue I am experiencing with my 2017 Skoda Citigo, which has a gasoline engine. The check engine light has illuminated, and I am observing idle problems. The engine occasionally stalls, particularly when decelerating. I suspect a potential air valve issue, specifically a defective hose connection from the pump to the valve. Could this be the cause? I have not observed any obvious signs of damage, but I am seeking guidance before proceeding with potentially costly repairs.

Summary of the thread

A 2017 Skoda Citigo with a gasoline engine was experiencing idle problems and an illuminated check engine light, with the engine occasionally stalling during deceleration. The suspected cause was a defective hose connection from the pump to the air valve, potentially leading to a vacuum leak. After inspection, a cracked hose was identified as the source of the issue, causing erratic manifold pressure readings. Replacing the defective hose resolved the idle problems and turned off the check engine light.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

The check engine light and idle problems you describe sound familiar. I have a Citigo as well, though I haven't experienced engine stalling. It might be worth checking the hose connections related to the air intake system. A vacuum leak could definitely cause those symptoms. Think of it like a tiny hole in a straw – it messes up the whole system.

Thank you for your response. Could you please provide more detail regarding the specific hose connections I should inspect? Also, did you experience any issues with manifold pressure readings when you had a similar problem?

In my case, the issue stemmed from a cracked hose leading to the air valve. The mechanic identified it as the source of a vacuum leak, which was causing erratic manifold pressure readings and subsequent idle problems. While I can't pinpoint the exact hose without physically inspecting your engine, focus on the smaller diameter vacuum lines connected to the air valve and intake manifold. If you are not comfortable with this, I suggest a visit to a workshop. They can perform a smoke test to pinpoint any vacuum leaks.

Acknowledged. It seems the problem was indeed with the air valve hose. The workshop confirmed a vacuum leak, and the defective hose connection from the pump to the valve was replaced. The check engine light is now off, and the idle problems are resolved. The total cost was 175€. Thank you for your assistance.
